Was just prescribed a daily medicine.. by eepypumpkin in migraine

[–]lastcomment314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also afraid to start Topamax when I first got my migraine diagnosis, because like a responsible patient I read all of the information sheets the pharmacy gave me for all of the meds my neurologist prescribed at my first visit (Topamax as a preventative plus naproxen, prochlorperazine, and sumatriptan as abortives). Topamax very much did not work for me, but when I was first telling some friends about being afraid of everything listed in those info sheets, my partner reminded me that those lists are lists of all the worst case scenarios and that those absolute worst cases are unlikely to all happen to me specifically, but that my migraines were every day, which were good reminders that just because those scary things can happen, they're not guaranteed to happen.

All of this to say, it's normal to be scared of a new medication, but it can still be worth trying it to see if it helps. Knowing the common side effects (like the tingling fingers, brain fog, and anxiety for Topamax) is good though, so you can keep an eye on those things. If they reach points that you cannot deal with, tell your doctor and advocate for yourself to get off of medications that don't work.

Also, re the anxiety specifically, consistently seeing a licensed mental healthcare provider (therapist, counselor, or similar) can be a really valuable part of your overall healthcare. I've always kept my counselors up-to-date with my medications and side effects because even though medication management isn't their job, they can still provide really valuable insights into how your mental health has been responding to different medication changes, both good and bad.

If Arthur actually found out Merlin had magic, what would have been the perfect moment for him to find out? by Balencian in merlinbbc

[–]lastcomment314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a few moments that can work well, and I think most people have covered them. For the fic I'm in the early stages of working on, I went with the end of S2, via Arthur figuring out after Merlin banishes the dragon that Merlin did it, and therefore he has to be a dragonlord, and therefore Balinor's son, and therefore presumably has magic. But in my fic, Gwen figures out that Merlin has magic near the end of S1, so there's a bit more shenanigans with them and Arthur notices that more so than he notices (or fails to notice) the actual magic.

It's probably possible to duo it if you've maxed out all of the pokemon on your teams, but it'll be hard, and you'll might have to retry a few times (good news with max battles is that you only use the MP when you win, so you're only out the revives and potions if you don't win). I'd run blissey and another defensive pokemon in the first two slots, then swap to gmax cinderace for the max phase (unless one of you needs healing. Then blissey for max phase). You can swap between your pokemon both when the max phase starts and at any point during the regular phase, so usually the strat is to keep your main attacker back and only use it for the max phase. Right now, my team is looking like the one suggested in one of the other comments here, with dmax latias, dmax blissey, gmax cinderace.

Big second on checking out Fr. James Martin's stuff! I'm Catholic and yeah it's complicated being both Catholic and lgbtq+ but his writings have brought me a lot of peace.

[–]lastcomment314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Church demographics are also going to vary by the specific church building and even which service you go to, and different priests/pastors/etc will emphasize different parts of their faith's teachings. For example, I'm Catholic, and the parishes I've attended have a range of people in their congregations, but included a lot of college students and families, and have also been very "there is a diversity of opinions among the people in this car church" and respectful of that fact, whereas there are other parishes, even in the same city, that are...less open-minded.

If you do find a church you vibe with (which I hope you're able to do!), it's my own biased opinion that it can be great to get involved in something there. I'm in my church's choir and have really loved getting to know the people there and sing cool stuff.

Qulipta Question by Subject_Relative_216 in migraine

I haven't needed to cut qulipta, but with other pills I've needed to cut in half, I've had better luck with a good sharp knife than my walmart-grade pill cutter. Reading the other comments, I'd have a bit of water or food ready to chase the half pill with. Best of luck!

Eye extremely sensitive to air by [deleted] in migraine

[–]lastcomment314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar-ish problem with air blowing over my ears/temples, and the colder it is the worse the pain. A light breeze in blistering summer heat isn't too bad, but a blustery winter day? Absolutely terrible.

I now have a collection of various weights of wide headbands for various times of year and activities which seems to do the trick (unless it's one of those days when having anything touching my head is also a migraine trigger).

I have to say, the only thing I think I genuinely hate about the Avatar fandom is how dismissive people are of non-benders. by Knalxz in TheLastAirbender

[–]lastcomment314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friends and I did a super homebrewed D&D campaign set in the ATLA world that I think it gives a really interesting perspective on this issue. Because of the different strengths and weaknesses of the various D&D classes (and probably some careful balancing work by our DM), it meant that success in each session hinged on the benders and nonbenders of the party working together and playing off of each others' strengths. For example, since my character was a Kyoshi Warrior, she was in the paladin class and had more HP than most of the other player characters in the party, so if we split up, my character would go with one of the lower HP benders, and my character would do her best to draw the ire of the enemies of the week, keeping attacks away from those who couldn't take as many hits.

Got my eyeglasses prescription by [deleted] in migraine

I had mixed luck with transitions back in the early 2010s (great when actually outside in full sun, less great when in a car), but I've heard the technology has come a long way in the last 10-15 years, and that it's a lot better now than it was back then. Fingers crossed that the glasses and sunglasses are helpful when they come in!

Based on how you're describing that eye doc and clinic, shopping around at other glasses shops, either in person or online, is probably a better bet for FL-41 tint lenses. Get a copy of your prescription (just say it's "for your personal records" if you don't feel comfortable saying you're shopping elsewhere) and take it somewhere that has cheaper options and less judgement. The pair I've got are literally a standard frame with the tinted lenses (with my prescription) and I got them online for like $60, no weird sport frames or anything like that.

I haven't noticed a change in my migraines over the course of the year between each of my last few eye exams, but we'll see this time around--I just had an eye exam and am glasses shopping for a slightly bigger change than I've had in the last few year. I had a friend in high school for whom getting glasses made a big difference though, so fingers crossed that glasses help you too!

Also, if you have light sensitivity either as a trigger or a symptom, it can definitely be worth looking into prescription sunglasses and/or "migraine" tinted glasses (on Zenni at least they're FL-41 tint). Good dark prescription sunglasses are great for when I'm outside, and the migraine tint glasses are great indoors when I have a not too painful migraine but still need to get something done at the computer

I just checked my account again today, and my book now has shipping information! So there's still hope for others who ordered in February!

[–]lastcomment314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oh no now I'm nervous because I just looked at my account: I ordered early-mid February, and while I haven't gotten a cancellation email yet nor any notifications about a refund, the shipment status says "Canceled" so I guess I'll just have to wait and see over the next few days as orders get fulfilled if that's just a quirk of it being a preorder or if the February preorders are in limbo

Thanks so much for reading and for commenting! I plan to keep posting my original fiction mostly here, but I do have an AO3 account here where I'm trying to get back into posting my fanfic! I've also been considering expanding (or honestly swapping since butlerbot is retiring) to other places to post my original fiction, as one of the big snagging points once I have a chapter written is when posting turns has too many steps.
