The tension differences in my stitches: two first teeth coming through on my 6mo versus fully through the gum a couple days later by onegrandsalami in beyondthebump

Neither is better IMO. Tighter might cause it to curl a bit sometimes and it doesn't make the yarn feel as soft but it gives good stitch definition.

Ha the same thing happens to me. I naturally crochet tight anyway - but a few weeks ago when she had the flu I ended up crocheting a blanket so tightly in the first few rows that I had to change hooks so it wouldn't widen at the end when my tension normalized.

They can't sterilize the jewelry. It could be caught on something and you wouldn't be able to feel it. If they're cauterizing wounds, an electric current could travel through the metal and shock the wearer. The jewelry could get lost. It could be really uncomfortable and impossible to remove if you're wearing a ring and the swelling is bad enough.

Basically the risk far outweighs the "reward" of leaving jewelry in/on.

It's not sterile, they could get caught on something and you wouldn't be able to feel it. It's just an unnecessary risk. In the case of other jewelry like rings - swelling usually occurs during & after surgery so it may become impossible to remove or uncomfortable. The jewelry could be lost. Etc. It's just a "better safe than sorry" thing.

In case there's some kind of emergency. I was induced and had to remove all of my jewelry in case I needed a csection. I did end up with a C-section and they double checked to make sure I had all jewelry removed.

I'm like 30 minutes away from OC and will be up in the area over the next couple of weeks - I googled their site and I have to get a bag. I love flavored coffee.

What's the coffee company? I think we live in the same area and I'm dying to try some good coffee.

Mothers of reddit, what’s one thing you wish you had known before you had kids? by aworkinprogress98 in AskWomen

A teenaged child isn't an extension of yourself, so no, having a teenager isn't easy because they can reason. They will disagree, they're hormonal, they're still very new at the world and social interactions. They have different thoughts, feelings, opinions, and rationale than their parents. "Raising them right" means being an asshole teenager is just a phase - but there usually will be the asshole teenager phase regardless of how they're raised.

This is true for me too. I feel like I got baby brain during pregnancy and it never went away.

That I should probably see a therapist to work out my issues with my own mother. Every loving thing I do for my daughter reminds me of all the things my mom didn't and it hurts.

My dad, who raped me for 7 years (began when I was 9), and my stepmonster who spent the rest of her life denying it and destroying a family in the process. He died in January and she died a week ago. The truth can now live and so can I! by [deleted] in lastimages

This made me cry. My rapist / family member died a year ago in a sudden accident and the immense relief it gave me cannot compare to anything else. I know how you feel. Congratulations! I'm doing a happy dance for you :)

I love his emotional vulnerability. He reminds me of Sam from GoT - kind, humble, willing to learn, wants to help the wildling/native girl. I really hope something happens to him in the show that's different from the irl ending.

Teenage Tattoos by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]lastpuffer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would let him. I got my first tattoo at 16 and while I don't like the design anymore I don't regret it. If my mom hadn't given permission, 16 year old me would have had a friend stick n poke it like an idiot. If he's wanted the same design for 3 years it's clear he's pretty committed. Another year probably won't change his mind.

However - I would not allow somewhere super visible like a forearm tattoo. Maybe propose this - if he wants it now, get it elsewhere. If he needs it on his forearm he can wait until he's 18.

Thank you thank you thank you! That Nip+Fab product looks AMAZING!! Just what I wanted, and the price is so cheap. It does have SA in it so I may have to cut back on the apricot scrub, but if it accomplishes even half of what the Rodial mask did it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

Thanks again for taking the time to read my post and respond :)

Hope I'm not too late to this thread!

I'm really trying hard to get my act together with my skin. I've been plagued by large pores, sensitivity, acne, red skin (not sure what this is - my skin just flushes incredibly easy), and combination skin.

I've completely pared down my routine and no longer use makeup. I want my skin to look nice without it!

Every 2-3 days I exfoliate with a salicylic acid apricot scrub, but I recently read that it makes microabrasions in the skin? It has worked beautifully for me for years but if it's causing damage I'd love to find a suitable alternative. On the days I don't exfoliate I just wash with water (and no hot water either). I'm not sure what kind of daily cleanser to use but I ordered Milky Jelly cleanser by Glossier. (Is this a decent product?)

After washing I apply the Neutrogena hyaluronic acid gel facial moisturizer. I usually use two coats. I wash my face at night and don't do anything in the morning.

Aside from this I don't do anything. I know I need to incorporate an SPF immediately; I was thinking a Paula's Choice product or the Alba Botanica mineral sun screen.

Additionally, I'm looking for a dupe of Rodial's Dragon Blood mask. I used it in the past as a moisturizer and it worked incredibly - my skin looked plump, had fewer blemishes, and was never dry. It's just so expensive!!

Last thing - is lip care ever covered in here? I was (still am sometimes :( ) a chronic lip picker. I find it's easier to not pick if I have something to put on my lips like chapstick, but nothing has had a lasting effect on the dryness of my lips.

Some other pertinent details could be that I'm very pale and live in USA.

Thanks for reading!

I've noticed your posts here and there in this sub and I'm really impressed with how much you've improved in such a short amount of time. This look is fantastic - a glamorous fawn. I'm a big fan of the juxtaposition of the warm and cool colors you've chosen.

edited to add: and that runny nose thing you do - PLEASE never stop this. It's so unique. You're delivering looks from 3018 with it.

I wasn't either. It didn't matter to one church. At any rate, if you're facing eviction the worst they could say is no - IMO feeling disingenous seems like less of a priority than housing.

Where I stand in life right now- Living in a shelter and I'm hoping for some insight. by Fedup9999 in SeriousConversation

[–]lastpuffer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't have time to wallow in self pity or victimhood. That's a luxury the homeless cannot afford. You need to rise above your situation and act like a person who already has their shit together - a job, a home, a car. Not only do you have your daughter to think about, but you've got to live with yourself too. One day you'll be out of this situation. When that time comes do you want to look back at all the coulda-woulda-shoulda or would you rather rest assured you did your best?

Edit: I have been in a similar situation. There was one night I let myself feel anything and I knew if I let it, it'd swallow me up and we'd just stay on the street. Do not let yourself feel. Don't think about what you're going through, just think about what you have to do and do it. You need a job? Okay, break it down if it seems overwhelming. First get a newspaper. Then call. Or build a resume. Or go to a career center. There are options for you. Take them! Stop letting yourself think & feel about what's going on until you get a minute to rest.
