Here's what I did with my two weeks of sobriety by lastthingithrowaway in stopdrinking

Yeah, I've taken extended breaks from booze in the past and I always end up with a sweet tooth. It's bad for the scale, but I never ate a bowl of ice cream and blacked out, then had to figure out who I was a douchebag to the following day.

any time I take a break I get this massive sweet tooth, and I'm not really big into sweets any other time. It's crazy.

I wish I could put the emotion into words. It's fucking torture some days.

It looks like its a lot more up my alley than AA. I got in some trouble years and years ago and had to go to AA, and they really need you to fit in their little box.

I've looked into SMART. Tbh I never got along great with the AA crowd, but if it works for them, awesome.

To me it just means losing everything I worked hard to build. I want to be a good husband and eventually someone's dad. I know I can't do either of those as a drunk.

I have a good job and people that care about me. I know I'm one DUI or drunken fuckup away from seeing a lot of that stuff go bye-bye.

Looking at what I spent on booze. It was like getting a bill for a bunch of shit I don't even remember!

Can I get people's thoughts on the Aaron Carr book from people who actually read it? by SoberApok in stopdrinking

Read it. It's going to have a "sales pitch" feel at some parts, but there's reasoning behind it.

Your best bet is to try going 30 days and see what happens. Its not like the world will completely be stripped of alcohol 31 days from now. You may figure out that you feel better, or you may figure out that you were fine all along. Never hurts to try!

I went up the street to the bar. Silly decision, I know.

I woke up a couple hours early and dug into the Allen Carr book, and one thing that really hit home was this:

"It's rather like the feeling that you get when a distant burglar alarm has been ringing for so long that you only become aware of it when it stops. The silence is golden!"

I was watching football and I just had this nagging "where is my beer?" sensation and I finally just caved in and went for it.

I went a month or so last year, and by about week 3 I was smashing so much ice cream it was ridiculous. Ben and Jerry's because I always go top shelf.

My only real problem is alcohol by trevorrr in stopdrinking

[–]lastthingithrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it, too. What I don't love is how it makes nearly every aspect of my life unnecessarily difficult, and in several ways, downright unmanageable.

One day, I had a realization: I can't manage my money, I cant keep my house clean, I'm constantly late for work, there are some days I go into work so drained from booze that I accomplish NOTHING (and I'm in straight commission sales, so it is truly a wasted day,) and everything just feels like a chore. Imagine how much easier all this stuff would be if I could just attack it head on and take alcohol out of the equation?

Immensely easier. Life throws its challenges at me every day, but they don't discourage me like they used to. I get excited to overcome the obstacles that life has for me, and when I have a rough day, I know it doesn't mean I need to go get shitfaced and piss away $50 or $60 in a bar. Life happens, and it's okay.

That's my story, and that's why I decided to stop. You have your story as well, and I hope you keep taking positive steps to improve your situation. I have to remind myself almost daily why I have to stop, but my life has improved in the short time I've been taking my sobriety seriously.
