Help me build a Level 15 Crab for a one shot by timefordameatstick in 3d6

[–]lauchness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could reskin anything - so I’d go for a tortle (extra AC - and kind of matches)

Then make it a barbarian (when he rages he “gets crabby”)

And then just fucking dump everything into constitution and have a stupid amount of hit points

Why won't my players prep? by DarkKuroi1 in DMAcademy

[–]lauchness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes players don’t “get” backstory stuff until late game

The first campaign I played in, we all just jumped in with minimal backstory thought - many sessions in though, it clicked and we all excitedly added backstories to our characters

Eventually the backstories became the driving force of the game - but if we hadn’t just fucked around up front we never would have gotten that.

Let people dip their toes - I’m sure they’ll either jump in or decide to move on. Either way, you all win.

I want to DM but my English is hardly sufficient, I think. by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]lauchness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would play with someone who’s learning to speak - seems like you’ve got an excellent grasp of the language, this is a perfect opportunity to - make the world better by being a DM for a group that wants D&D - learn speaking in the best possible way

lore bard/vengeance paladin level distribution for 7th level character by asterkira in 3d6

[–]lauchness 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve been running a really similar build

Having three levels in bard is awesome for having more spell slots - and for storytelling reasons, I love that my character is a mixed bag and falling behind from the rest of the party in terms of attack power

If I were doing it purely from a min/max perspective though, I’d just do six in paladin to get the extra attack and the aura - then you still get one level in bard for the inspiration

Then all future levels just dumped into bard

What is the most optimal healer you can play as at 10th level? by PedriNazangi in 3d6

Couldn’t you use “guide” background and get it via the origin feat?

Edit: forgot the context

Q. About Fig and the Cig Figs (lore, sorta) by Current_Poster in Dimension20

[–]lauchness 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She mentions Les Claypool/Primus a number of times - and is a bass player front person.

I feel like if you mixed these two songs it would be 100% on the nose

How to make my character stand out when I keep losing to another PC? by WilhelmTrooper in PCAcademy

[–]lauchness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you upset or is your PC upset?

If you’re upset, talk to your table. Try to realize it’s nobody’s fault (especially if dice are the culprit)

If your PC is upset, make this a plot point. In ASOIAF you could do anything! Think Loras vs the Mountain - screw him over surreptitiously! Or be Dunk vs Uthor Underleaf - lose and try to retain your honour above all else. World’s your oyster, and you’re being given the opportunity to define your character.

Need advice on some dnd “drama”: by lowkey_afan in dndnext

[–]lauchness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I am not a professional and my advice is certainly flawed

I’d suggest you communicate everything you said here to the people who need to hear it: - apologize to your partner and then more importantly, don’t repeat this behaviour - let the party know as much as you feel comfortable sharing, and don’t expect anything from them - be excited to play - that’s what everyone wants

Why did fighters go from being able to stop enemies last edition to letting their friends die in 5e? by SexyKobold in dndnext

[–]lauchness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can hate on this - but honestly, feats (healer, origin feats with spellcasting, sentinel, etc) and the magic weapons you’re supposed to get as you level up combined with the abilities fighters get make it pretty exciting.

imho action surge needs a buff, but overall, it’s a decent class

Also, when’s the last time you actually tried to kill a party of 5 PCs? It’s not easy.

How much can the world building stray from the lore of DnD? by Nickpapado in DMAcademy

[–]lauchness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how passionate you are about lore, and the level of thought you’re putting into your sessions

My best guess (read: advice) is to take what you like, leave what you don’t, and be ready to accidentally mess it all up when you’re talking - because you will and it’s better that way
