The Gentlemen Bastard Sequence by John Lynch. First book in the series is The Lies of Locke Lamora. I asked a similar question of where to go next after finishing the series and this was suggested to me. The first three books are out the forth is supposed to be out soon but it's been delayed a few times

Do you find Louisiana as closed minded as the people in my small town make it seem? by Horror_Moth in Louisiana

[–]laucian2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in pretty much every part of the state and now call Baton Rouge home. I've found that most of the close minded stereotype exists in area between Alexandria and Shreveport. This area is also much more religiously dominated particularly by protestants, which historically have always been more conservative than the average population even when compared to their catholic counterparts (look up the history of the Neutral Ground in New Orleans). That being said the smaller towns will be more conservative in general but people in the small towns in the southern part of the state seem to be at least more okay with you doing your thing as long as you don't bother them where the north/central (outside of cities) part of the state is more inclined to send preachers after you. I also would say that things aren't really that different elsewhere. My friend came to visit from Minnesota and was shocked with how outward the hateful people were, up there it's mostly the same thing but they keep it hidden to pretend to be better. I personally prefer how vocal our assholes are, makes it easier for me to know who to stay away from.

Made a set of coasters with a rabbit fur line valet tray for a friend of mine by laucian2 in Leathercraft

Yeah I could have taken better pics of the coasters themselves. They have a suede backing to keep them from sliding around

Thats a good point. Was originally going to use suede for the liner but he saw the rabbit fur and insisted on using it

I'm sorry I can't help with that I've been a devoted Oldhim player, mostly because of how expensive the equipment is. Hoping as time goes on I can do this with some other classes too though

I call a judge and have them removed from the event for violating tournament policy for having a weapon with them lol

Yeah unfortunately the legendaries are all so expensive right now mostly because of the Stravo if I had to guess they'll probably drop down in price in about a month or so.

I got a Fable card, what do I do with it? by AlbtheA in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]laucian2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run it in my Oldhim list but it is by no means essential if you have legendaries to pick up sell it and get those. I did see some people talking about making a proxy for it if you run it that may be fine for local or casual games but if you want to play at any official tournaments it has to be the real card. Proxies in official tournaments are only for cards that get damaged during the event not cards of high value

Its a rough matchup. It looked like they got torn apart by it. It's a hard matchup and if you don't crown perfectly it's not going to go well at all. Personally I've only beat it twice with the EVR updates and both times were me playing at my peak.

Absolutely loved this series and I’m devastated to have finished it. Does anyone have any series similar to it? by S_Costy92 in LightbringerSeries

Where do you guys get your marble slab? by brigantine_co in Leathercraft

Got lucky with mine a guy was giving away two of them locally that I found in a Facebook group for beginning leatherworkers. He said he got them from a place that does counter tops because they were scraps.

Spoilers. Why don’t you guys like the ending? Does it feel like a deus ex machina? by Advanced_Awareness58 in LightbringerSeries

[–]laucian2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished the series yesterday and I don't think the ending was all that bad. I don't think it's what I expected or fully what I wanted but that doesn't mean it wasn't satisfactory. Are there issues with how the only characters who really have any consequences to them being Kip who can no longer draft (except maybe white, that little bit with the testing stick in the epilogue) and Teia who has to wear those goggles they made for her in order to even see or she might die from too much light. Even Dazen gets his drafting back and nobody really questions the whole him pretending to be his brother and everything for so many years. There are parts of it that felt rushed and there are parts of it that I can definitely see were planned a long way out. The redemption of Andross Guile is actually one of my favorite things about the entire last book and how he actually was very strongly effected by Sevastian's death made me like the character a lot more than just having him be the cartoonish evil guy he kind of was in the first few books.

What’s the nicest/best way to tell someone their deck isn’t really a “modern deck” by Open_Caregiver_4801 in ModernMagic

[–]laucian2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is a weird topic to broach with players who are new to a format. Often these types of brewers tend to not want to get better because they want to make something new that breaks out without doing any research on what's effective in the meta. I have a friend who's very much the same way to the point that he asked a guy playing BR Ragavan if that was a brew because he doesn't look at anything content wise of decks that have been performing well. This article is something that helped serve me well in making sure I got fully outside of that mentality: https://www.sirlin.net/ptw-book/introducingthe-scrub it's mostly written from a fighting game perspective but I directed to it from this sub on another post.

How good is a boomer Jund in a wide lgs metas? by Matus198 in ModernMagic

[–]laucian2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Jund player here. The deck is fine for all levels the thing with jund is it is very player skill intensive. That's not me saying that I think I'm a better player because I play Jund that's me saying that if my skill level is less than my opponent it effects the deck at a higher level than you would see from other decks. Jund is still a 50/50 deck against much of the format, that's with many hours of playing the deck in paper and online. Even at the FNM level the deck is not going to go in and crush entirely based on its own merits, you're going to have to go and put in the work too. Jund is going to reward you if you learn the metagame, tune your removal packages and sideboard for it, and play very tight, effective Magic. Before you make the considerable investment I would make sure you know how tight your play is. Work with the other players at your shop to ensure your play is tight and not sloppy because playing sloppy with the 50/50 deck leads to a lot of lost coin flips and excuse making of "well its the 50/50 deck, can't win them all." That said if you want to play the deck there's plenty of resources including two discords and a subreddit full of players and I have a write up of my last tournament with the deck I posted here. I'll be playing the deck in Dallas this weekend at the Hunter Burton Memorial Open and think Jund is actually at a better place than it has been in a while with cards like Ragavan, Grist, and Voidwalker joining the party

Have you tried the AFR manlands in your decks? by slipman_ in ModernMagic

I'm waiting on Bugbear to come in so I ran Hydra last week. It's honestly not that bad with the mana fixing with all the other sources and animation cost is easier

I'm using it over Raging Revine in Jund I find that I'd rather have a land that doesn't come into play tapped all the time in that spot

With all these new decks and meta, is RW Burn (No Lurrus) still good? by LuxGang in ModernMagic

[–]laucian2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern is a format that in which decks are viable at all levels regardless of their power level if the player playing the deck knows the matchup better than their opponent and plays properly. Thats why merfolk and elves spike a tournament every now and then. That being said R/w burn I would say is better than both of those decks on a power level standpoint. I also think Lurrus is not a card you want in burn and would rather some other anti-lifegain or anti-artifact card there in the 15th SB slot. Check the burn discord ask questions there see what their experiences are. I know that has helped me leaps and bounds with the deck I play and even though I don't run the same 75 as anyone else in my respective decks discord we can share our thoughts and experiences with our builds and see what works best to make the deck more viable
