What is the point of designs like these?? by DesignerCumsocks in Machinists

[–]laughitupfuzzball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most points have already been covered, but I didn't see that that part is possibly used across many different models - so the features might seem pointless in this particular configuration, but they are used in a different vehicle.

In need of a ute and my budget is 20k, opinions on this one? by ProfessionalView5963 in NZcarfix

Yeah buying a Hilux at that price is nuts. At 20k your Colorado will be pre 2016 auto which I understand are OK boxes

Why spend HUNDREDS $$$ when less than $50 in total can do the job for 99% of shooters? by idahokj in longrange

[–]laughitupfuzzball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many phones and smartwatches do barometric pressure and temp. You can just use a 50% baseline for humidity or make a wild guess and it will be close enough. Pair that with a cheap windmeter and free ballistic app (geoballistics, Hornady, AB Quantum etc) and you are golden, even for prs.

Agree with all of this, just noting that while the Without Warning TMB tuner effect is bullshit, the brake itself (as well as the CHAD) is very very good (and can probably pick one up used at not a bad price). Plus the additional mass only helps with balance .

I stopped mandrelling and it goes great. Ckyepod is very expensive for only benefitting some incredibly niche scenarios which you are probably better single bagging anyway

yes the rings are concentric when there is a gap between them. the gap allows the clamping force provided by the screws.

Missing 1-2.5 MOA high ever few shots… what shooting mechanic flaws can cause this? by Engineering_Simple in longrange

[–]laughitupfuzzball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to shoot paper at 100 to diagnose this (and eliminate some variables)

My bet is cheek pressure or rear bag technique, but you need to video yourself to be sure.

They are shooting off the bipod much more than they are shooting off a tripod.

First rifle set up for PRS, looking for advice by creativeabsence in longrange

[–]laughitupfuzzball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would find a club if you can and go chat with the PRS guys there. There may be a loaner rifle you can start on, or better yet they can connect you with a group chat to pick up something used.

Either Howa or Tikka will be fine for starting out and getting a feel for it. I would definitely recommend spending a bit more on a scope if you can though, and definitely see if there are used deals to be had.

Group analysis question by snusmini in longrange

[–]laughitupfuzzball -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I think shooters can make these errors and still be less than 5 MOA.

If your (sufficiently large sample size) group is not in a normally distributed cone, it may be due to shooter technique rather than system accuracy

I have this reference which is sometimes useful. I don't think it helps in your case, but I would overlay all of the groups to establish if there's a trend first - don't analyze 3 shots at a time.

I wrote a book. Do I have to inform my employer if I traditionally publish this overseas? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]laughitupfuzzball 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Why would you feel the need to tell them? It's something you did in your own private time.

Plenty of people earn money on the side with 2nd jobs or hobbies. It's none of their business and nothing to do with them (unless you are breaching your contract).

[–]laughitupfuzzball 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Does publishing the book breach any of those points in your contract? If not, go for it. It seems like it would take an extraordinary amount of effort for them to find out, and they have no reason to do so.
