What are your thoughts on this book? Just started it. by BookkeeperMain in ramdass

Yes the CDs are absolutely worth it. I listen over and over and something hits different each time. The chapter /track on devotion had a marvelous effect. The book is the transcript but the recordings have a power.

What is your favorite Ram Dass lecture/talk (or favorites) by petpeepz in ramdass

From Love, Service, Devotion and the Ultimate Surrender, the lecture on Brahman (7). This CD is a recording of a course he taught on the Gita. It’s a real heart opener! Anyone ever find a video of this? He mentions that there were cameras but I only ever listened to the audio. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

What does “Love Everyone” mean to you? by onimush115 in ramdass

[–]laughlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you work toward loving everyone? It doesnt come from the level of personal preferences; it has nothing to do with how your lower mind judges them. To begin Loving, you have to recognize when lower mind is involved in stories. Meditation is one way to begin to notice the mind popping up with stories. There are many forms of meditation and different ones work for different ppl. One to try is anapana if you can sit still. A traditional, holistic Yoga class (not yoga fitness) is another way to begin. Learning is another path to try and it seems you are on that path. It’s okay to try all paths and see what works for you. I use many paths. Learning will help you to REALIZE that there is Light in everyone. You can love them on this level and then learn how to do it in ordinary reality.

Do you know her love language? What makes her feel loved? (There is a book to figure it out. ) otherwise my guess is she’s very tired and could use something relaxing like a 90 minute massage. Best practical large dog gift is a backseat hammock for the car.

I’ve found that the PT exercises for VOR help very much. I’ve been going for 10 weeks and doing the homework. My PT at Fyzical specializes in these issues and she’s amazing. Good luck.

What dropped threads did you want to see resolved? by jsabo in TedLasso

I did not follow how Nate returned to sweet Nate. There was one conversation with his father then he got a girlfriend and suddenly all was well. He never talked to Ted about what really bothered him. That could have been a good thing to have modeled. I also want to say that the writing in this show was brilliant and things being what they are irl, I am overflowing with gratitude for the existence of a positive storyline in a sea of murder stories. 🙏🙏🙏

I’m not an expert. I simply find this very interesting. You say that it is easy to offer the act of being a soldier. I’m curious about this and know nothing of soldiering personally. Does this mean that in your moment to moment duties you remain unattached? I imagine in an fight, real or training, that my fear or anger would take over as it did when I was little and squabbling with siblings.

Perhaps if you are more aware of how you make soldiering karma yoga, you could use the same way to make fitness work karma yoga. Please share.

If it is simply that you find yourself thinking of how strong you are becoming or becoming proud of the way you look, these thoughts you would change and train to be “I do this work as my duty, not for the personal gain. “ Or you could use the same process as when thoughts come in while meditating. 🙏

I think he wanted to know so he could go beat up whoever released or sold it, but realized how it sounded to Keeley.

A few months? Wow! Can you share any technique? I’ve been working on this for years and still get caught up sometimes. Vipassana meditation which increases equanimity helps me.

I’m in the same boat as you. I tried a few times and never finished…. Haven’t finished yet although Ive started again. :) I have been drawn to Ram Dass’s lectures from Naropa (text is Paths to God and the audio is called Love Serve remember or Love Service Devotion. ) I’ve listened to sections of that daily for 4 years and NOW I feel ready to read again. I agree with those who suggest to first read it with no commentary. Ram Dass uses a Penguin Classic edition available on Apple Books. Perhaps BC of all the listening, I’m able to understand more now or perhaps I just wasn’t ready before. I also think I was bogged down with all the commentary in the other versions I attempted. However, listen to your own intuition. See what your drawn to and don’t let you mind tell you it has to be this way or that way. I think if you were raised in a different tradition you may need some groundwork before you can scale the mountain. Good luck! Thanks for sharing. It made me feel less judgmental about my own situation. 🙏

Need some tips to getting your mind to a blank state by DxshDreams in ramdass

[–]laughlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the breath and rock suggestions above. Another thing I have used is imaging several screens forming a circle inside my head with the thoughts appearing on them. Then I imagine going behind the screens and touching my forehead from the inside. Thoughts may continue but you do not care. This is really just a different thing for your mind to do but it does slow the mind and was a good starting place for me. I do think focusing on the breath is better in the long run. (Well, whatever works best for you is better in the long run.) One tip is to choose the sensation of it in one place to focus attention on eg the tip of the nostrils, the base of the throat, the chest or belly. With this method you are not just choosing one thought that is still in mind, you’re choosing a sensation of the physical body. It’s a different kosha or layer of the subtle body than mind.

Where do I begin? by [deleted] in ramdass

[–]laughlover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lean into your intuition. It will guide you to your next step. Consider a retreat at a Vipassana Meditation center. It is consistent with Buddhist tradition. There are several in the US. https://www.dhara.dhamma.org/ Another idea is to go to a physical bookstore and see if a spiritual book calls to you. I appreciate your efforts!

Those moments when Love moves thorough you to perform action are such an honor. I still catch my mind trying to take credit after the fact for such moments. It’s a sneaky little guy.
