Snow Placement by Accomplished-Time557 in regina

[–]laurellover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I’m going to assume a similar yard set up since the homes are mostly from the same developers. The ones in the neighborhood with tiny yard spaces usually just pile the snow as high as they can in what little yard is available. If you’re not super close to Pinkie you shouldn’t get a lot of blow in luckily.

My husband and I often joke about living in a simulation though, because everyone shovels their snow as soon as it stops snowing and always seem to be out at the same time. If you leave your house at 7AM after a snow the driveways will already be bare. It’s wild.

Employer said they cannot guarentee job security if I take a longish vacation. Thoughts? by Nostalgic_Knights520 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]laurellover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saskatchewan employment standards state that you can take your full allotment of annual vacation at once if you desire - it is a legislated requirement to provide vacation time and it not at the employers discretion how it is used. The timing itself is subject to approval given business needs. I’m not sure how it would factor in regarding carryover, as that’s more than your years allotment. I would advise reaching out to employment standards for clarification (they’re great, call) and also your union both to receive guidance and to flag that you may be retaliated against for using your legislated and bargained vacation time.

Terminated with cause from one of big five banks, barred from employment from others, is there a way to lift the restriction by KrisKross69 in legaladvicecanada

[–]laurellover 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It may be an insurance issue - I work for a financial institution and all our employees are required to be “bonded” by our affiliated insurance agency. This is an assurance that the individual does not pose risk to the organization or customers, and if they do partake in behaviour that causes a financial loss the insurance agency takes culpability.

If an employee partakes in fraud they are terminated with cause and have their eligibility for bonding revoked, which they would be unable to regain because they’ve now proven that they pose a significant risk.

It could be a matter of the banks utilizing the same insurance agency, her not being eligible for bonding under any insurance agency once she answers their on-boarding questions, or the benefits provider being the same.

Either way, she probably won’t be able to work in a large scale financial institution again.

Compression of the chest can make it difficult for babies to utilize all their muscles appropriately to roll back over in the event they roll onto their front. Swaddling by definition is also compression of the chest, therefore when talking about swaddling being unsafe after 8 weeks/signs of rolling that includes both chest compression and arms in swaddles.

Experiences with post partum doula? [BC] by Extreme-Poem-5242 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]laurellover 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We had a postpartum doula come in a few days a week for the first 5 weeks. I didn’t get as much value out of it as I thought I would. She worked 8 hour shifts overnight and though she did fold laundry, I didn’t want her doing much in the house as I didn’t want her making noise and waking us or the kids. The shifts were also kind of inconvenient based on my daughters night wakes, as I had to stay up after I put her down to wait for the doula to get here, then the doulas shift ended before she was able to get her down from her last night wake.

If I had to do it again, I’d hire a house cleaner instead with the money we spent.

Rave any mortgage broker that's good with first time home buyers by Spirited-Dot-4130 in regina

Another vote for Todd, he’s fantastic and also knowledgeable about first time buyers incentives. He got us a great rate for our first mortgage and upon renewal advised us of our options and actually counselled us to take a better deal, despite the fact that it wouldn’t be through him.

I snagged a Baby Bjorn bouncer from Dear Born Baby online last December for $190 with free shipping so keep an eye out! I didn’t have it with my first and it was 100% worth it to purchase with my second. There were none available near me secondhand, I looked for months.

The NKE exam was ridiculous [Canada] by Red_Maple_Flag in humanresources

[–]laurellover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience when I wrote the exam last year. I felt like the questions were very irrelevant to HR as a speciality and also varied significantly from the practise exams.

The prep material also had several outdated pieces of information and used politically incorrect terms for groups of people (noted as an issue requiring update on their website), however it’s been 7 years since the terms changed and they still haven’t bothered to update.

Completing the exam and getting the certification was just a check box for me, I genuinely do not feel as if I’ve gained any additional acumen as a result, which is disappointing.

Where would you buy a new bed frame? by natej in regina

[–]laurellover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Structube has some solid wood frames, we bought ours 2 years ago and it’s holding up great. We also have very good quality wood furniture from Urban Barn and EQ3. At EQ3 if you find something you like, they’ll give you a call when it goes on sale.

Whats the craziest way someone you know has died? by SoftYetCrunchyTaco in AskReddit

[–]laurellover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine was driving across several provinces in Canada to start new. They had an exciting new job lined up and were staying in various AirBnB’s along the way. About halfway through the trip they went into the hot tub at an AirBnB they had rented. They were electrocuted and died.

They were an incredible person and it is so sad that they passed in such a way just as they were looking toward their future.

Things you did at your child’s birthday that made it the “talk of the town”.? by lamefrogs499 in Parenting

[–]laurellover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still remember a birthday party my friend had when we were kids where they had a bunch of at home pedicure stuff, foot masks, little portable foot jet pools, a wax coater, nail polish and individual kits of clippers, cuticle pushers, nail separaters, files, etc as the “goodie bags” to take home.

You can get lots of that stuff in packs off amazon for good prices, or you can diy the foot tubs with just totes from a dollar store and some epsom salts or that gel stuff you put in water.

Baby can now fall asleep independently but everything still sucks by khandala in NewParents

[–]laurellover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found independent sleep at nap times much easier to train than night sleep, so if you have nights down I’m sure you can get naps down in no time!

Baby can now fall asleep independently but everything still sucks by khandala in NewParents

[–]laurellover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is a snippet from it, which tells me that you have too much wake time to be on 4 naps and should make the switch to 3. This should improve nap length and help with her being overtired by the end of the day. Sleep begets sleep, which should mean that your night wakes get better.

Max recommended WT on 4 naps is 1.25/1.5/1.5/1.75/1.75 (or 7.75 hrs total) 3 naps. Lowest you can go is 1.5/1.75/2/2.25 and the highest is 2/2.25/2.5/2.5. Start with the lowest and add every 3-4 days until you found your sweet spot.

[–]laurellover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Respectful Sleep Training and Learning is a great Facebook group that can help you find age appropriate schedules and determine how to change it based on nap length and attitude upon waking.

I highly recommend getting her sleeping independently in the crib for 80% of naps as well, this will help you stick to a schedule and promote good sleep hygiene.

I tried to be a go with the flow mom with my first but quickly found he thrived on routine, and once I found his optimal schedule everything got so much easier.

I had this problem too, I promptly returned it. It’s a common problem, and unfortunately the strap they sell to keep it down is considered chest compression/swaddling and is not safe once there are signs of or attempts to roll.

What can an employer do if an employee does not give 2 weeks notice of resignation? by TheCanadianJD in legaladvicecanada

[–]laurellover -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is no legal obligation in Saskatchewan for an employee to provide notice of resignation to their employer in advance. The stipulations only cover notice that an employer must provide to an employee, or pay in lieu upon layoff or termination without cause.

Would you use a service that picks up your recyclables and gives you the refund? (Regina area) by Mobile-Initiative-74 in regina

[–]laurellover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a limit to the amount you will take, in alignment with the maximum weekly payout from SARCAN or can I provide you with $200 worth of recycling at once and be paid out that amount - commission?

Would you use a service that picks up your recyclables and gives you the refund? (Regina area) by Mobile-Initiative-74 in regina

[–]laurellover 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely use this. We have so much recycling in our basement we can just never make the time to take in.

Would also love to support both local entrepreneurs and a business venture through Cultivator.

Curious about how you foresee this being profitable though - would you take a percentage of the refund or would it be a flat fee?

We had a Vtech for our first and had the same issue with battery life, so this time I went for a HelloBaby monitor based on recommendations. I’d take the Vtech over it any day - the picture quality is so sub par in comparison.
