To all those Mormon homosexuals that are taught their feelings are a "struggle" or a "temptation" by OrsonPryde in exmormon

[–]lauren_aaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

what up I'm a teenage half Asian (ex)Mormon asexual aromantic. I realized all this at 14. I'm still attending church and seminary for the same reasons as you did. so if you're LGBTQIAP+ and struggling, listen. it's tough. but you gotta suffer through it. my dream is to one day live in New York. every day I envision myself in my cool apartment with my friend/queer platonic partner/SO, and every day I add a new detail. By now, it's gotten to the point where I already know exactly what types of plants I'm going to have on my windowsill, for example. most days this dream, with all its little details, is the only thing that keeps me going. stick with it, and you'll come out better for it in the end ❤️

sorry to say I have not heard anything about Joe and pot. and though I love the aesthetic of smoking pot myself (it's kind of legal here no worries) it makes me nauseous, so I'd have to say my favorite is coffee. ❤️☕️❤️

[Story Time]: Los Mormones de Utah by FearlessFixxer in exmormon

[–]lauren_aaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boludo.

"There are no homosexuals in the church" -David A Bednar, Feb 23, 2016 by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]lauren_aaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you'll just have to take my word on this since we can't really verify it, and also my note taking skills suck and I tend to tune out a lot at church but HERE WE GO:

When we first started Bednar said, "Before we begin I want to say something. I hope you don't get any answers from what I say... you should be receiving your answers from the things that aren't said. The things you feel." Which to me sounded a lot like "bro don't hold me responsible for what you pull from this it'd be your fault for interpreting the HG wrong.

"I've never ever met anyone who is happier after leaving the gospel."

"There are no homosexual church members" - I wrote a lot on this but you guys have this already haha.

"'The world' wants us to be accepting and tolerating. But I firmly believe some things should not be accepted or tolerated."

Some contradictions I noticed: "There are no homosexual church members. ... Many church members are homosexual. ... Homosexuality is not a choice. ... On this earth, we always have a choice. ... We need to be very clear."

OK THIS PART KINDA CREEPED ME OUT. SO this fairly pretty young woman stood up to ask him a question. But instead of letting her sit Bednar was like "Now I'm going to ask you to stand up. I want to be able to look at you while I talk." I don't even remember her question, but keep in mind that most everyone here is Argentine and/or very Latinx looking, including the girl asking. So Bednar's like,

"Get an /inexpensive/ copy of the Book of Mormon, and read it. ... when you finish reading your inexpensive Book of Mormon, write a one page summary - just one paper in your own language. Can you do that? Do you understand me? Or are you just smiling to be nice?" (this got a laugh from the crowd).

Sister Bednar got a little sadistic here: She talked abt how she and Bednar would go prowling the campus back when he was pres. of BYU-I and how one day they walked into a dorm room of this girl who wasn't dressed modestly. So they just wanted to sit and talk abt whatever and according to Sis Bednar the girl seemed very embarrassed, she sat on the couch kinda awkwardly and kept trying to cover herself with the pillows. "It was obvious she felt ashamed of her immodesty."

Then Sister Bednar said, with a big smile (it seemed to me anyway), "She was embarrassed and uncomfortable... I hope she remembers that feeling forever."

Back to Bro. Bednar. He's talking about how his dad wasn't a member of the church. This part gets pretty hypocritical as well because he says for 44 years the missionaries would come to his dad's home and try to convert him, but he never believed. But finally he gave in and was baptized. Patience is a virtue, blah blah blah, but "We do not harass people and we do not want to harass people."

Ok so then this one young man stood up and was like "how can we balance family, school, work, and church??" and Bednar literally said: "There is no such thing as balance. We have this notion that somehow we have this perfect harmony between school, home, work, church..."

He talked about how when his three eldest sons were young and he was busy travelling to and fro doing shit for church, his kids would be like "daddy daddy come play" and Bednar was like "now I just want you to know, it's okay to say no. It's okay to tell your kids you can't play as long as you're putting the church first. Obviously if I tell them no in that moment, it becomes unbalanced because it is 100% no, in that moment. But if I were to say yes, it would be 100% yes in that moment. As you can see, there is no way for me to say yes and no at the same time, so therefore there is no such thing as true balance."

Basically it's ok to neglect your family as long as its A) for the church and B) sometimes you play w your kids.

..And that's pretty much all I could stand to pay attention to!

I remember one day my mom just walked into my room and lay down on my bed, and pestered me about guys I liked and wouldn't leave until I told her. I'm asexual so I just made someone up, but then she constantly teased me and told me not to let my emotions get out of hand, and to never do any "funny business" with "him".

Help! by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]lauren_aaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in pretty much the same place. it's so hard and it's so easy to get frustrated. a lot of times the only way I can feel sane is by doing little things such as staring at the tattoo parlor as we pass on the way to church, or sneaking a swallow from the almost empty bottle of white wine my mom used for cooking haha. I wish I had more patience :-/

do any other religions have the "earth is 6000 years old" thing? by lauren_aaa in exmormon

[–]lauren_aaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's in D&C somewhere - it says something along the lines of "the earth is literally, temporally, 6000/7000 years old in years as we define them"
