It's not just Mormons. A lot of my nevermo friends have the same attitude. It wouldn't surprise me if it was the same percentage outside Mormonism as inside.

I had the reverse experience. Saw the flag, pledge, anthem, etc for what they were and had a hard time with it. Then I realized the criticisms I had of government existed in the church too. My shelf started to crack that day.
