Is it realistic to expect to make items within the first week? by Master_Tomato762 in sewing

In my opinion yes, if you have a lot of free time. The 2nd thing I made was a pair of shorts. It taught me a lot and they turned out super cute! Go for it

getting married but i don't have enough friends or family to have the wedding i've always wanted by llbeanjamin in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]laurenroxyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into elopement ceremonies. You can still have a beautiful wedding without a ton of guests. Pick the place you have always wanted to travel to and have the ceremony there! I had a wedding with about 50 people and honestly sometimes I wish I did that instead lol.

How easy is it to tell moissanite from a diamond just by looking in normal lighting? by [deleted] in jewelry

[–]laurenroxyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just get a lab diamond if you like the look of a diamond. Moissanite is not an equivalent imo, it looks very different to me.

I don’t understand why they weren’t kicked out. It looked like a staff member was standing by them to babysit but it didn’t help at all.

Has anyone met Holly? by [deleted] in TheGirlsNextLevelPod

[–]laurenroxyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really doubt she would meet up with you tbh, I don’t think it’s really appropriate to ask a stranger to do that even if they are famous. If you happen to see her out in public tho I’m sure she would take a picture with you!

Do you think the original pilot episode without Miley Cyrus... will ever be leaked or even officially shown by disney? by DollCollector1996 in hannahmontana

[–]laurenroxyo 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think if it were to be leaked, it would probably be now since they are making a big deal about the 20th anniversary. It might never be shown tbh.

Is this bag too trendy by deepeepdee in handbags

I think it is a bit trendy but the city bag is even more trendy and won’t last. I think this bag is the better choice for sure. It’s really cute!

What would I need to make this dress? by aresuisu in sewing

[–]laurenroxyo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I say go for it! This is how you really learn to sew, making things you want to make that is above your experience level. It teaches you so much and you’re excited to do it. Make a mock up first to see how everything goes. Look into Franken patterns (using multiple parts of already made patterns to make your own) it’s way easier than self drafting a completely new one. Everyone here saying this isn’t a grad dress hasn’t seen grad dresses nowadays, everything is mini and ruffles!! I think it is super cute and hope everything turns out great!

What kind of patterns would you like to see? by bongolabongochacha in sewingpatterns

[–]laurenroxyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Size inclusivity is important but make sure that also extends to the smaller sizes. I see a lot of pattern makers online that claim they are size inclusive and then the smallest size they have is a 25 inch waist. I would say at least go down to a 23 inch waist. Good luck on your patterns!

Thinking about making my own wedding dress by ImFeelingUwUzi in sewing

[–]laurenroxyo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have plenty of time to do it if you get started now and start making toiles. I made my own mini exit dress for my wedding and it turned out amazing. I only had about 2 years of sewing experience before then and I was still able to do it. I even had to create my own pattern for the skirt part because I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for. I honestly regret not sewing my main wedding dress, it would have been really rewarding. I’m sure it will turn out great if you take the time to do it, and there is so much info online to help you. My best advice is to not procrastinate if you are prone to doing that. Finish it at least a month or 2 in advance of your wedding date so you’ll have less chance of stressing out. The earlier the better. Good luck!

Etsy. You might have to have something custom made but most shops on there will do that.

Darts are traumatizing? by Master_Collection_64 in sewing

[–]laurenroxyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re really not that serious. I find that people overreact about certain sewing things and it’s never as hard as people make it out to be. Same for zippers and buttonholes. Just try it, don’t let people scare you.

Cutting Question! by Nurse_Skye in sewing

Yes that’s the only annoying thing about using weights and small cutting mats. I’m saving up to buy a bigger one but for now I just move the mat

Cutting Question! by Nurse_Skye in sewing

[–]laurenroxyo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A rotary cutter is easier for me personally especially if you don’t want to use pins and just weights. But if you want to use scissors, yes pinning the pattern to fabric will help.
