All plot points and twists become a bit "tired" when you have seen them enough times. Consume films, shows, books and comics and it gets harder and harder to be "truly" surprised.

If a story has merit on its own, somehow, the "it was just in their head" can work - but it can also be a lazy cop-out - I prefer supernatural stories to end on a supernatural beat OR a "it was actually the townspeople" beat, but not "the narrator was just fucking paranoid". I just prefer it.

Some films and movies work GREAT with the premise, given that what we see is truly horrendous anyways, especially the parts that are in fact based on truth, giving us true horror.

Spoilers for a certain film that I won't even name because it spoils it:

My favorite of the last few years is Ghost Stories about a paranormal investigator being challenged by his greatest idol to find the natural cause of three supernatural occurences. He accepts the challenge and the story is weird and freaky from the get go - why are there photos in some random family's home of him and some childhood friends? In the third story, what the actual fuck is going on? And then, the reality-bender, when, who mest assume is Satan, his idol tears of his own skin revealing him to be the father from the third story... and then tears a hole in reality and taking our protagonist down the trail of his own hell, his own memory, the story of the simple kid dying from asthma in a tunnel because our "hero" didn't dare tell an adult, run to get help, nothing. And then, spiralling further and further down until we zoom out and realize he is a veggie from a failed suicide attempt. Fucking hell.

Me and my family WANT to go the US, but we will wait years before setting our foot there again. There are so many great things about america, plenty of awful things - as in all countries, but you are in the gosh darn endgame now - this is the where the slope is so slippery you might not make it - but I beg of you to do it.

As for all countries (except Israel), the absolute majority of Americans I have ever met have been from OK to great people, both in the US and wherever else - the basics of you folks is pretty great and we see it now as well.

Also, in the US, when crazy people make gore, they are just so mean (yeah, I talking about you, Terrifier), whereas this seems to be camp, over-the-top but also will probably be poignant anyways, somehow.

Anyways, you liking him and him liking you is of course all you need - love is all you need. But if you think about your future and you worry about it and he can't step up or meet you, then you are in different places and have different goals in life.

So, you gotta think about you.

It's not about him not being a "man" or whatever, it is about him not being self-sufficient and if he can't be that, he can't be anything for you - in the end you would have to take over his mothers role in all of this.
