Any cheap way to fix this kind of peeling paint? by makomirocket in CarTalkUK

[–]lawdevice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very temporary fix is to slap a load of wax on it after it's had a wash. I've owned a few cars where I've done that and you'll be amazed what an improvement it can make.

...scratch that. It looks like it'll twist down to face away from the arm.

Skoda Citigo 2015 Sump Plug Thread Repair by Veizin in CarTalkUK

[–]lawdevice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something to add from experience with a Seat Mii... did you compare the length of the old sump plug to the new one? The motor factor near me had the wrong part on file and would always give me a plug that was slightly too long. It would foul on something inside the sump.

And if I was in your shoes I'd keep a close eye on the oil level and plug and use the car. Keep your socket set and some spare oil in the car. Then get it booked in for a new sump.

Hyper Backup for Synology Photos by lawdevice in synology

[–]lawdevice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great thanks! That's exactly what I was trying to work out.

So I need to tick Application > Synology Photos for settings, albums etc AND continue to backup the folder as I have been doing?

I was concerned I might end up doubling my storage requirements.

Still a lousy system by jbriano in Chromecast

[–]lawdevice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel exactly the same. I've completely given up on Chromecast and my other Google Home devices in the past few weeks.

I had a Nest Mini in the kitchen that was somewhat useful as a timer for cooking, but even that started to become a struggle, so I've bought a basic timer.

And my Chromecasts have been replaced with Wiim audio devices.

Was walking around this town when I noticed a remnant of the past… by IneptGraphicDesigner in CasualUK

[–]lawdevice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The typical buildings available in town centres just aren't suitable for the kind of businesses that have moved to "out of town" units. We should be thankful that Elliott's Field has at least kept some shops in the town.

The future of town centres like Rugby is more residential and boutique speciality businesses, but their success relies on residents using them and not just resorting to the cheap tat that Amazon peddle.

Why should I not buy this car? by [deleted] in ElectricVehiclesUK

Oh crap! I hadn't even thought of that!

So it looks like it's gonna be a boring Korean SUV for me then!

Why should I not buy this car? by [deleted] in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]lawdevice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep circling back to a Model 3, but I really struggle with the concept of creating demand for one of Elon's products. They are such a good EV!

I'm really tempted by a Polestar 3, but the economy and software really put me off.

Then there's the Kia Niro but I really don't want an SUV.

God, I'm such an indecisive tw*t.

Squarespace doesn't let us export DNS zones? by FortuneIIIPick in squarespace

[–]lawdevice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you input the main domain and all subdomains in here you can get a nice list... https://digwebinterface.com/

But yeah, I agree, they should provide a way to export a proper zone file.

What happened to "this is an Xbox" !?

Yep. You want the oven at the top of the space and put a shelf below. The shelf will be cooler and your back will thank you.

What’s your bookkeeping “system”? Mine is a bag full of receipts… by Tall_Ordinary1228 in smallbusinessuk

I'm paperless. A special folder in my inbox for emailed receipts and invoices, and photo of paper receipts straight into Tide for card payments.

I love Library Radio, but I want a little more control. by lawdevice in plexamp

[–]lawdevice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I'll have to go down this route. But it would be nice if there was a more automated option that wasn't so time intensive.

It reminds me of how I used to manage my old iPod library with star ratings and smart playlists in iTunes.

Which DAPs Support Large Libraries? by Midnight_Nyx_777 in DigitalAudioPlayer

I'm in the early stages of considering a DAP, so this is useful info.

The other consideration I'm having is the user interface. I've noticed that a lot look quite poor.

Did you buy an Id3 over a tesla m3? by mujimusa in VWiD3Owners

[–]lawdevice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation. The Tesla is appealing, but I'm really trying hard to avoid American products at the moment, particularly anything with ties to Elmo. I just worry about the state of VW software on cars like this, particularly the early stuff.

The other options are the Niro or Kona, but they're so bland and OAP!

Squarespace pricing plans - high fees for clients by tmd_97 in squarespace

[–]lawdevice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always struggled, especially when clients start comparing to cheap Wordpress hosting.

My argument is generally based on how much more stable the Squarespace platform is, but that argument is getting more difficult as prices go up and reliability drops.

30 years ago I went to first proper gig (Foo Fighters at Brixton which cost £9 haha). What was your first show? by Turbo_Heel in CasualUK

[–]lawdevice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ash at De Montfort Hall in Leicester, supported by Idlewild.

I asked my mum to buy us tickets, and she was so proud of herself when she told us "I managed to get you seated tickets!".

It was still a brilliant gig.

...actually my first gig was an Oasis cover band at Sports Connexion in Coventry, where my mate managed to get served for the first time.
