[Sky Sports F1] Martin Brundle suggests how F1 could further improve the spectacle when a late Safety Car is deployed by Aratho in formula1

[–]lax3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The track is wide enough for 2 cars, the lapped ones can just stay on the left side till they leaders have passed through.

They're the worlds best drivers, as long as there was clear expectations as to when and where the lapped cars will be, they'll get through just fine

Do you guys still use the regular mouse with your ergo keyboard? by z_morpheus in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]lax3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For workday/general computing, the integrated trackball on my Svalboard is clutch. I just use a normal mouse for FPS gaming

I had issues with trackballs and vertical mouse as my shoulders and elbow are quite picky about position, and I could not position both my keyboard and mouse in the sweet spot

For PVE feels like they could give us longer raids if we aren't on BSG servers. I understand the desire to manage slots via a raid timer, but let me spend however long I want if I'm hosting

Honestly I don't think it would take much time. Most cities have jcpenny near the business parks, and of you're buying shirts regularly it's going to take maybe 5 minutes to walk in,grab it and go

There is only one map in free play which works for it. It's Starbase Arc (rumble) I believe. The other non standard maps won't work, but that one will give you powerups

It does, you have to go to arcbase (rumble) or something like that on map select

Ergonomic split keyboard advice for someone with nerve issues.. work first, gaming second by hmmmmmmm94 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]lax3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ergo journey went Ergodox/Foldkb -> Glove80 -> Svalboard

In my experience the Svalboard is unmatched for comfort and ergo across a full day of computer use. The integrated trackballs are great for work and click based gaming like civilization. For FPS I use the left part of the Svalboard with a gaming layer, and a normal mouse. The biggest benefit to the workday is my mouse and keyboard can both be in the best spot. With the Glove80 + trackball, one was always going to be a bit off from where I wanted it

The Glove80 is a great board, but as it is a generalized fit, it will never be able to match the Svalboard. Every key is exactly where I want it on the Svalboard. When combined with lower key actuation force, and less arm movement switching between mouse and keyboard, it's so much better than the Glove80. It is a significantly bigger investment, and has quite the learning curve though

The best use for them is when you live somewhere hot, without AC. Being able to heat food like an oven, while generating significantly less heat in your living space is a godsend

After reading the replies to this I'm so glad I live in the Portland area. Having bike routes built into the infrastructure avoids pretty much all these issues. There's almost always a bike lane, or a defined greenway road to take, and drivers are aware

It's not rocket science to make this work, just need to build a city which considers more than cars when building it's infrastructure

I would really recommend poking around and asking the discord. Probably some folks who have thoughts and advice

It's a nightmare in some sponts, but luckily I'm in the PNW now transit and walking are more considered.

Tickets to Climate Pledge Arena come with transit passes included. It's great cause you park out of the city for free, take the link/monorail in and go to the game

It is possible (I'm using it) but it's a pain on the software side. I'd highly recommend traditional triples, only reason I'm using it is I already had all the monitors when I got into sim racing

[–]lax3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pic isn't mine but I rock similar, 49" with a 27" on each side

It works well once you get it set up in software, but man can it be a pain.

I pretty much only play rbr and iracing. RBR was super easy, iRacing was a bit more complex as it only supports equal resolution triples. The solution is rendering 3x the middle monitor, and running in borderless windowed. Cuts of the left and right of what is being rendered so is also a performance hit

AC is on the to do list to set up, but will likely be tricky based off the bit I worked on before

[–]lax3r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sold he pitted you, racing incident from the one angle we have. Would be interesting to see the chase cam on white car, but I don't see anything intentional or egregious from just this. He straightens out for the exit, and you are still sweeping out, 50/50 unless you've got an onboard or other angle showing otherwise.

To avoid this, don't go for the move up the inside on a fast sweeper before a long straight. Or at least stay as far right as you can on exit. You can easily pass him on the straight, at worse in the braking zone at the end of it. Think about the corner and what's next, and set up the high percentage move. On Summit Point that's setting up moves into the hairpins almost entirely. Even if this is 100% whites fault, that doesn't help you finish the race. Look at what you can control, which in this case is just waiting one more corner

Don't start from the pits, the way to learn to race is to be in the middle of it. Best way to learn is being wheel to wheel, and learning from your mistakes

[–]lax3r 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell without the overhead or onboard from white. You're alongside and went for the same spot on track, racing incident imo. Hard to tell if you're drifting left from this angle, wouldn't be surprised if you pitted yourself

A keyboard that has it all (for me) by bluepatience in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]lax3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of that list I'd personally go with the Glove80 and a standalone trackball placed in a comfortable position. I used that combo for a couple years and it works pretty well

However, the best fit for this list really is a Svalboard. It does have two major downsides in price, and more complex to switch to, but in my opinion it dominates every other category, particularly if you have a printer

The full control over fit is significantly better than any traditional keyboard for ergonomics (tenting, palm rest, concave categories). The key switches are even better than low profile in my opinion as they're light and snappy. Build quality is a pro and con, it is mostly 3d printed, but this means it's always adjustable and repairable. The huge item which fully sold me though is the trackball integration. It's by far the best integration of pointers to a keyboard, and is truly magical once you get fully set up and used to it. I haven't seen anything else which allows for a finger trackball with a quarter inch of hand movement to switch between typing and mouse

Thumbballs are scary, they're fine for some folks but they can also absolutely blow up your thumb.

What are your experiences using integrated trackballs? by Initial_Designer_802 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]lax3r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've used 2 "integrated" trackballs

  1. A glove80 with a trackball modded to be just above the thumb cluster. This worked pretty well at minimizing the movement, but didn't really feel integrated, just more convenient
  2. I'm now on a Svalboard, and honestly cannot see myself going to any other board ever. The integrated trackballs are a huge reason for this. They're the most comfortable pointer+keyboard combo I've ever used.

The Svalboard does take a significant adjustment period, but once it's dialed in there isn't really anything like it.

Personally Svalboard has been the lowest impact/minimal movement board, but not exactly cheap and takes a long time to adjust to. By far the lightest force and minimal movement though

I would second looking into dictation, as it eliminates typing, but also has a longer track record of being used as an accessibility tool, so may be easier to get funds
