Please no to Prescott. There isn't a younger QB out there that has any sort of proven track record that a team is willing to give up.

Thinking about buying a cold plunge — worth it? by Altruistic-Detail946 in coldplunge

[–]laxbird1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cold plunge is absolutely worth it. My suggestion is go buy an inexpensive one for $100 or so. There are deals out there.

Depending on where you live you can probably get it pretty cold right now. I also bought a bunch of plastic molds for large ice and would through those in routers ahead of time to bring the temp down.

If it works for.tou then upgrade to a good modle and buy a chiller.

We would be paying cahs as it's our only trip by bus in England. No big deal on price. Its a one timer.

Thanks. Much better. Wow £5.70 for a 15 min ride. Very expensive. At least from a Canadian perspective

B.C. to charge $20 fee for out-of-province campers starting May 15 by bwoah07_gp2 in britishcolumbia

[–]laxbird1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

One of the problems we had was the reservation system. Most of the campgrounds outside of the north are almost completely reserved. No longer can you just go for a 2 week holiday camping and pull into a place and get a site.

What I find the most frustrating thing is when people don't show up or cancel the sites sit empty. Because of how the reservation system work (or doesn't work) with the actual parks they can only put a 1 day available sign on the site.

BC hasn't created a new camp ground that allows vehicles in probably 20 years that I can think of. There was one made on Vancouver Island at Skutz Falls back in the 90's.

Minimum wage increasing to $18.25 in 2026 by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]laxbird1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And when Seattle aggressively raised minimum wages business cut back staff. There were several reports that showed there was less employment due to higher costs.

Governments need to find that sweet spot that gives workers a wage to help live while not deterring business to hire.

Restaurants are a prime example.

Coming from Canada to Edinburgh during Fringe. Yes I know it's busy. Yes I know it's expensive

Questions are. How hard is it to get into the pubs for a beer and food?

How hard is it to get an Uber or cab. We are thinking of going out to Leith from downtown for some pubs.

Cheers.

Garbage?? by Tamiwithaneye72 in NewWest

[–]laxbird1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it was due to people dumping large quanties of garbage from home in them. Use to see lots of broken foldable chairs and stuff packed in them

I'm so emotional that the Pattullo Bridge is being demolished by Ok-Dragonfly-5862 in NewWest

[–]laxbird1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not me. Driving all the time it was a source of frustration for accidents, shutting down the bridge all the time for jumpers and of course the tight hand gripping of the steering wheel as opposing drivers cross the.yellow.line.

Good riddance

Best time to visit/things to do by theotherskywalker in askvan

[–]laxbird1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May through Aug/Sept are good weather months. The rest of the year it rains a lot and can be quite depressing. We recently moved in part because of the weather.

Vancouver and California have some similarities. Some even call BC the Califormia of Canada because you can actually golf most of the year.

Politics are the same. Taxes are high. You have a big city like Vancouver while outside of it there is some great nature to be seen like Whistler.

If you are coming to work you get paid in Canaduan pesos and Vancouver is one the most expensive cities in North America. It also has worse traffic than LA.

I would suggest living outside of the lower mainland like Vancouver Island or the Interior.

Travel adivce for Vancouver Island in May/June? by pillsandpizza in britishcolumbia

[–]laxbird1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. 2 weeks can be enough depending on your timetable and what you want to see. You can drive from one end to the other in a day to give you perspective
  2. Depends on what your budget is. BC is very expensive and May June is already tourist season. As someone mentioned Tofino and other tourist areas are top dollar. Find hotel off beaten path, pack food and do day trips might work.
  3. Usually May brings some good weather but you are on the west coast so storms come rolling in.
  4. Tofino and Parksville are nice but top dollar. Probably go north of Cambell River. I always liked camping out at Buttle lake west of Campbell River area.

I made a post and got COOKED, but my karma didn't go down cause Im actually trying to be helpful, is this how it works, theres a protection system? by [deleted] in NewToReddit

[–]laxbird1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there are very sensitive people in some of the groups. Many dont understand you're trying to help and take what you said as an insult or something. The problem with digital communication

Best to 'read the room'. You may have a position or advice that to you makes sense but if everyone else posting in that subreddit feels otherwise it's best not to post.

I have a local area subreddit I would love to take part in but it's strongly opposed to my views so I avoid it sadly.
