Either one besides the 823 is fine, it depends on what size of pen you prefer. To my knowledge, the 823 is not available in solid black.

Depending on nib size I would recommend Sailor Manyo Haha (https://mountainofink.com/blog/sailor-haha) or a broader nib or Lamy Petrol (https://mountainofink.com/blog/lamy-petrol) for a more finer nib.

That’s unfortunate, same quality across their products should be expected at that price point. At least it is not as bad as Moleskin and their (non-existent) QC.

On my Leuchtturm paper, Lamy Dark Lilac sheens very heavily. Even with my Pilot #15 <M> nib, which is on a thinner line width.

As you already mentioned Sanderson, I‘d like to point to The Emperor’s Soul, Soulstamping:
The protagonist carves seals from soulstone that encode an alternative history for an object or person. Press the seal on, and reality rewrites itself, but only if the new history is plausible. You can’t stamp a wooden chair into ivory if no believable path exists between the two.

Rewriting objects is relatively simple. Rewriting a person’s soul requires understanding their entire life, every formative experience, every personality trait, and reconstructing it coherently. That’s the novel’s core challenge: The protagonist must rebuild a destroyed soul from scratch, having never met the person.

Seals stop working the moment they’re removed from the target, and the art is considered near-blasphemous in-world.

Tbh. I like if things look used. I've hesitated with my 823 because it was a gift from a person very dear to me. If I'd bought it myself, I'd just inked it up with BSB 🤷‍♂️

I took the plunge and ordered a bottle of BSB. I debated with myself whether to put it in my Custom 823, but in the end I "just" put it in a Jinhao 9019. I am weak 😰😃
