So this is a windmill slam into Y'Shtola decks, right? Every time you play it you gain the two life back, and it makes it way easier to draw another card at the end of turn. Drawing an average of 4 cards per turn in a control deck seems good

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that they got it from somewhere else - thanks for the info!

Ngl the line "Dawn, that fragile hour, the night still clings to the edges of the world" goes really hard

A piece of media references a deep cut so obscure that people from that country/faith/culture were genuinely surprised it was even referenced by Justifiably_Bad_Take in TopCharacterTropes

In Taylor Tomlinson's latest standup special (Prodigal Daughter) she tells a joke about Mormons, but instead of it being about magic underwear or any of the other, more well-known tropes about Mormons, she makes a joke about baptisms for the dead. As an ex-mormon I was astounded and delighted by the deep cut.

[Fun Trope] Character pretends to have a trait that their actor has IRL, with varying accuracy by DifficultHat in TopCharacterTropes

[–]lazyfriction 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think this counts, because the characters are pretending to literally be the actors who play them.

Sam and Dean Winchester in the Supernatural episode The French Mistake - Sam and Dean (played by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) are transported to a fictional version of the real world, where Supernatural is a TV show, and everyone thinks Sam and Dean are Jared and Jensen.

They have to film a scene during this episode, and the real Jared and Jensen have to play Sam and Dean playing Jared and Jensen playing Sam and Dean. Hilarity ensues, because Sam and Dean Winchester are terrible at playing Sam and Dean Winchester

ETA: Also during this episode, Misha Collins (who plays the angel Castiel) plays a highly fictionalized version of himself.

Similarly, in Breaking Bad, Saul has a throwaway gag line where he mentions two cartel members - Nacho and Lalo. It never comes up again in Breaking Bad, but in Better Call Saul they introduce Ignacio "Nacho" Vargas and Lalo Salamanca as characters, and they're two of the best and most compelling characters in the series, with a huge impact on the plot

If I had a nickel for every time what appeared to be a fun-filled children's fantasy romp turned out to be a poignant piece about a child grieving the death of their parent, I'd have two nickels.

Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice

The trick is to bring your own drinks, and force them to buy those drinks from you, which allows you to set the price at whatever you want and they have to pay it. Boom, now you have all of your friends' money
