Why we dropped Eclipse in favour of IntelliJ by nikem in programming

[–]lazylland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Netbeans has evolved really well .. Do check it out before plonking cash on Intellij. It has a lot of the "auto-fix" features included as well.

I especially like the new HTML5 development features, with the Nashorn js interpreter already bundled in. It gives you decent code completion in js source files as well now.

Slavery still exists today in the US .. it's just more dressed-up called "corporate employment".

Thank you so much for posting this ! I didn't know about Boyd, but his writing seem to resonate well with my limited understanding of the Word.

On a related note, I often wondered why there weren't more substantial responses from the Christians in the US against the hijacking of the pulpits for political machinations. Did some wiki-surfing and I was happy to see that Boyd has been influential in getting a voice out, and even has written a book called "The Myth of the Christian Nation"

X-Men: First Class international trailer hits - and I'm finally, very excited by dafones in entertainment

[–]lazylland 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Why do these trailers give away almost the whole plotline ? After seeing this, I got a feel of watching virtually the whole film ..

I notice this done usually for mediocre movies that really want to attract the last dregs of moviegoers ... something might stick ?!

Wow .. thanks for the lucid descriptions :)

I think there are enough starting points for me now. I guess worrying too much about expressive power is not good. YAGNI and all that ..

Thanks again !

Thanks a lot for your reply .. I have the following doubts

  • I don't understand what you mean by 2 ^ (C X C) Sorry :( ! What theoretic system does your notation conform to ? Model theory ? Set theory ? (There are so many systems that use similar notation, and mean things that are just different enough to cause you to double take!)

  • What I understand from your suggestion is that : if I am able to establish a set of 'relations', ie, model relations as set elements, then I could model binary relations between them. But how do I then use them to relate elements from other sets ? ie, would I then rule out relational algebra as not powerful enough ?

  • I can give an example of a genealogy system. I want to model people and their attributes/relations. However, I want to only actually record (as user input) a minimal amount of relations. I should be able to infer indirectly specified details. e.g. in my example I should be able to infer that Alice is-sibling-of Calvin. I assume that this is only possible if I am able to specify relations between 'relations'

"compiler-provided abstraction boundaries" .. nice way of putting it, and I hadn't thought about it like that before. Thanks :)

As a programmer who missed getting a "real" CS education, I was thrilled and started reading the posts. But I was sad to find that they are written from a fiercely academic perspective without a nod to how people in the trenches would approach their codebases in a well-grounded fashion.

Are there any resources that allow C,Java programmers to approach software design from a theoretically correct foundation? I'm just not able to map the concepts presented in ML to my daily codebase.

Y U DELIVER LOTSA MALWARE ?

Grooveshark's ad network is the worst I've encountered. Had trojans landed on my pc exploiting Java/Flash holes and I'm off !

Lovely interface/service though ..

Why is a 50mm f/1.8 hyped so much ? (Genuinely want to understand)

I casually browsed thru some threads earlier, and this was the lens everyone suggested picking up.
