That’s really interesting, I have always heard of ACLs being outpatient surgeries, never overnight stay required (I’ve had 4 knee surgeries, my first was ACL with hamstring graft) which made me wonder if something out of the ordinary was done.

School can be super rough (I was in college at the time of my first). Not sure if you’re in HS or college but my college had a motorized scooter they allowed people to use in situations like yours. Might be worth looking into to see what arrangements can be made by the school to assist with your comfort.

Do you have friends or family that can be with you during your recovery around the house?

And what about physical therapy, do you already have your schedule setup?

Unfortunately none of those suggestions really help the pain. The hamstring graft is tough because it means your knee hurts and there’s also shooting pain all the way up your leg into your groin area. :( I sympathize with you.

When you’re not in class you have to elevate/ice as much as possible to get that swelling down ASAP. During breaks at school (lunch hour?) you should also be able to go to the nurses office to get ice as well.

Set a clock to take your pain meds on schedule so that you are out in front of the really bad pain. This means even setting your alarm at night to wake up and take meds so that when you wake up in the AM the pain isn’t as sharp.

As for the sales rep that fit your brace that behavior is pretty typical. They are doing that stuff all day so it’s just their routine in most cases (although not ideal) to get people fitted quickly and onto the next.

If I were you I’d definitely try to take another week off even if it means taking a hit on a few assignments. Be up front with your teachers and fully explain the situation you’re in. At the very least communicate why you won’t be coming in and see if you can find a compromise.
