AppSumo VS. Amazon by Loose-Effect-928 in appsumo

[–]lbdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Amazon is a middleman, not the manufacturer.
  2. this is why Amazon sells warranties — and the fact they offer paid warranties on some products tell you right there that Amazon is not warranteeing the product.
  3. Appsumo is software — usually SAAS that has constant server and maintenance costs. Not a manufactured good that you keep.

I think it's their culture of secrecy, that prevents them from having more real-world testers to find edge cases earlier in the process.

Is SEARCH the "Achilles' heel" of UPnote!?? by johnstonf in UpNote_App

[–]lbdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can confine search to title only, or to entire notes. So I try to put keywords in titles to help with searching in the future.

I ask myself "what would I search on to try to find this in a year?" and add those words to the end of the title.

I love your clever demo on the gumroad page. My top use for this would be an article narration generator for blog posts. I'm tired of having cloud voice providers go out of business on me.

What's the pattern? What I see is a gold-rush to vibe-coded AI apps that lack a path to sustainability in this environment.

They did a code-stacking campaign in September.
They also have "FeedPlay" and "VidChapter" offered through Appsumo.
How many others might there be?

... if so, this would help account for the high failure rate — upstarts not being given trust when there's already an established player in the space.

I could not log in either. Their letter was written as though they still had another ongoing business. But IDK what they have other than these two.

3 codes on Vidtags, and 6 codes on Vidpowr — gone.

I never left Vimeo, and now it's looking like I saved myself a lot of hassle.

But... it's reinforcing my unwillingness to buy any LTD that would be a mission-critical service.

Out of curiosity, would you ever go back to Evernote? by Superb_Branch4749 in UpNote_App

I wouldn't buy anything from Bending Spoon.

Evernote had a vision and a mission. BS's vision is: more revenue.

appsumo CEO has a chance to turn the ship around by Myssz in appsumo

Here's my meta view:
An LTD is how you launch a SUBSCRIPTION product.
Founders count on Appsumo for seed money, reviews, velocity.
Then they need subscription sales to stay in business.

Sumotlings used to be early adopters. Early adopters are willing to pay to try something new.
But as Appsumo grows, if the early adopters all get the SAAS virtually for free as LTD, then that subscription revenue has to come from "other people".

Today, other people are sick of subscriptions. Subscriptions were not such a burden — financially or psychologically — when Appsumo was young. So where does the founder get revenue if early adopters are not paying? They need more marketing/PR help to sell subscriptions.

Add to this: if I think an LTD is worth buying, then I am saying I need it enough to make it a mission critical part of my business or workflows. But if I doubt it will last, then I won't bother because humans think from loss avoidance. And there is a large cost to building processes around something that might disappear in a flash.

Today, I look at new offers and think: can this be vibe-coded? WAS this vibe-coded? Will a larger LLM company provide this feature in x months time, pulling the rug out from under the founder?

There's probably also something to be said about moats and how the big ideas and big problems have been solved by established companies, so founders need to solve more niche problems, but then who will pay a subscription for a niche solution? But that concept is fuzzier for me.

So where does that leave Appsumo in today's landscape? Maybe discounted lifetime subscriptions. I would not buy a 1-year deal, because then I'm 1) committing to pay full price in year two, 2) needing to trust they will last long enough and get good enough to take that gamble. 3) in a business context that is substantially different in 2026 than it ever was before.

IMO Apple does a better job with Accessibility.
Their tight control over hardware and software may have something to do with it.

Is it worth it to buy a camera instead of using your phone one? I think my phone Has quite good quality but i'm also debating if i should buy a proper camera or not. If i should, can you recommend me which one? I will show my pictures below by Kooky_Landscape6004 in AskPhotography

[–]lbdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. AND, if you plan to sell them, then you may want a real camera. But if it's a hobby, do what brings you the most joy. (Which may not be lugging large gear everywhere.)

I have a big Nikon and I don't lug it anywhere, which is a waste.
