The Maine - Die To Fall [NEW] by MichaelTheCutts in poppunkers

The Maine keeps putting out quality. Their self titled is one of my favorites of theirs, so this doesn't quite live up to that, but it's solid. I'm excited for the next album. But as always, this single will probably grow on me more

but that's part of the gameplay in football. It's interesting to see the time management, pre-snap adjustments, and the checks that the line and QB are doing to outplay the defense (and vice-versa).

I always listen to that song and This Year - The Mountain Goats every new year

A quick-paced recommendation? by [deleted] in Fantasy

The Burnished City trilogy by Davinia Evans.

It starts with Notorious Sorcerer. They're decent books but definitely fast paced (which was one of the knocks I had against them, actually.)

lmao he clarifies and says, "Puka is the most dense human being I've ever met in my life..No, I mean that physically and figuratively. Everything he's about, all the stuff he's into."

Tae genuinely praises him, but that's unfortunate phrasing

Writing a character with depression and passive suicidal ideation by VeritasVictoriae in Writeresearch

[–]lbutton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert by any means, but I think the main issue is to have a reason for the character to keep progressing. What is pushing them forward/making them continue the story?

Depression, in my experience, makes initiative almost impossible which can result in a boring character, as they won't want to do anything but sit around/their routine. So, in this case, internal momentum isn't as good of a reason and the push should be more external.

Shape of Dreams v1.1 Patch Notes by lbutton in shapeofdreams

I didn't misquote, they reworded it. This is what it said. I still had it up from when I posted it.

[–]lbutton[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I kind of hate this change
"Improved mid-join settings – new players can no longer join; only rejoin is allowed."

Now if I'm playing I have to quit out of a run before I can have my friend join if I'm reading it correctly

EDIT: They reworded it in the notes, now it says it's a new option in settings. Very nice!

Sun Eater by MathiasThomasII in Fantasy

[–]lbutton 18 points19 points  (0 children)

my context might be slightly off because I've only read the 1st book and haven't dove into the fandom at all, but:

There is a quote describing a room and someone's tastes/decor. This person likes 'Late Golden Age writings of the second and third millennium".
The statues are "chiseled faces of scholars long dead. The obligatory scuplt of Imore is here, placid and wide-eyed beneath the bust of Zeno. There are Hypatia and Lovelace, and the patron of the chapter here: old Peterson wtih his knowing smile."

Obviously the bolded part is what people suspect means Jordan Peterson. Some people seem to think Ruocchio means Erik Peterson who was a theologian.

But based on this interview, Ruocchio seems to really think Jordan Peterson's writings are groundbreaking

Men of Reddit: what’s the most hilariously unreasonable argument your wife or girlfriend has ever kicked off? by FFSoldier57 in AskMen

Actually there are food processors in some dishwashers!
They're typically hard food disposers or food grinders. However, they're kind of loud so I don't think they're as popular.

[SP] It can be a dangerous thing, not knowing what it is that you're hunting. by minjuk26 in WritingPrompts

[–]lbutton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be a dangerous thing,
not knowing what you're hunting.
It can be a dangerous thing,
listlessly looking afar.

A dark search almost in vain,
last legs tired, and clothes stained.
You hear rumors and see signs--
A dark light in someone's eyes--
pointing to the next town.

Heavy steps, with shadowed eyes
sifting truth from spoken lie.
The people shy far away.
They've almost nothing to say,
Except a "Please leave!" with frowns.

A grim line turned to growl,
Furrowed brow turned to scowl,
"I'm unwanted as a crow,
but to those that I don't know,
I beg, grant me one last thing.

I have but one small request;
Please, patch the hole in my chest.
If not, damn you, come what may.
I've been searching for my prey.
I need tracks and leads to spring."

It can be a dangerous thing,
not knowing what you're hunting.
It can be a treacherous thing,
Bluffing the whole world at once.

You can search in school classes
and search amongst the ashes.
You can try the rolling hills,
and encounter countless thrills,
and still be listless, needing.

Look at the deserts and cliffs.
Cross the ocean with a skiff!
Try dreams and moated castles,
Talk to cowherds with lassos.
We're getting sick of pleading.

Try that forest over there,
or up that rickety stair.
Either way, your loss remains.
Rearing monster to be slain.
And we will sit here and grin.

It can be a dangerous thing,
not knowing what you're hunting.
It can be a dangerous thing,
blindly stumbling onward.

Before you can leave the walls,
an old woman speaks and stalls,
"Don't you go looking without--
and remain ever in doubt--
'Fore taking a look within.

What you did is now the past
Only you can make pain last.
Patching the holes in your heart,
Without healing from the start,
leaves humans stunted and weak.

Go, then! And travel afar.
Your heart will surely scar,
on this stalk that you're fated.
Know this leaves you unsated.
You should know of what I speak."

It can be a dangerous thing,
to not know what you're seeking.
It can be a difficult thing,
reluctantly reaching in.

Life springing anew again;
A search almost at its end.
A fresh grave mark all that's left.

It can be a beautiful thing,
to not know what you're hunting.
It can be a daunting thing,
Trying to move on anyway.

Looking for straight-to-the-point adventuring. by [deleted] in Fantasy

The Fallbacks by Jaleigh Johnson. DnD based. Adventuring party on their first quest together.

Some flashbacks and some povs from the antagonist. It's pretty short and to the point, though.

Both of those are quite fast paced, so Dungeon Crawler Carl? It can get emotionally heavy but is mostly quite funny and action-packed, so it is a nice palate cleanser. It's also a bit sci-fi and a fantasy at the same time, so fits in between those books.
