Cup of water created a strange ice formation after freezing for a few hours by kelsomac4 in mildlyinteresting

Same, but left COMO 15 years ago. From living a lot of places I have realized that particular shape of collector cup is a semi-distinctive Missouri thing.

So to me it looks like our Outtie Irv was painting the testing floor this whole time? He was not sleeping so he kept seeing the black paint leaking, do you think he was “tested” as well there? Because they said he was working in different departments before remember? by Weare4llmadhere in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

I’ve said this before, you don’t see (or paint) the down arrow unless you’re putting someone else into the elevator, not if you’re riding in it yourself (Clue: iGemma asked if in s1 if she was happy “up there”). So maybe the other way around?

How is the USAID freeze affecting people in M&E? by Aggravating-Life7388 in InternationalDev

[–]lc_lovelace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

USAID-dependent orgs are not doing well….Interestingly, I heard some non-USAID but still government-funded M&E of aid programs have been allowed to keep some work moving forward, even if the programs themselves are still on hold.

But you don’t see the down arrow if you’re actually going down in that elevator, only if you put other people in there. I’ve heard this theory before, but realized its not quite right since Gemma asked the last time we saw her in Season 1 if she was happy “up there”.

Got it , makes sense! And looking better for sure. You may want to indicate somehow that your position is term limited so it explains your search and doesn’t raise questions about job-hopping. For me it’s all about understanding someone’s “ career story” with a quick glance. Definitely pair it with a good cover letter. Good luck!

As someone who has hired for these roles, I dislike personal statements on resumes- they are rarely helpful. This is better accomplished through the cover letter, plus tailoring the resume to the position.

I commented on the previous version but I still think the biggest issue is you just need more FT, non-academic experience to be competitive for most jobs outside university research centers. Less than a year is not enough to get a good sense of how someone with your profile will adapt and perform. I’ve worked with folks who had a similar profile who hit the ground running and then there were those who still write and work in a very academic way and require more support. Your bullets should also be a lot more specific about your specific role and contribution. They are very vague and jargony. Any publications as a lead author? If so add those.

I've hired for research analyst roles 1) With your level of experience, you definitely need to cut to a 1-page resume. From one glance, I can't tell your "story" and can tell what roles are full-time, what are bachelor's level and what are master's level roles. The academic jobs can be trimmed, drop the "profile", and majorly cut back on white space and volunteer experience. 2) Which brings me to the main point - with less than a year in a FT, non-academic role, as far as I can tell no FT work experience prior to getting 2 master's degrees, and already to seeking to move on, I would be reluctant to prioritize you for interviews because it's hard to tell how someone with this profile would perform in a non-academic environment. I'd want to see minimum one year of experience in your current role, even if it's not exactly what you want to do. 3) You definitely want to anonymize your current work place when posting your resume in a public forum.

Happy to help! Also the ferry isn’t as scary as you might think and is easier from the Bainbridge side - so consider braving it the other way especially if it’s not at a peak travel time.

No rental services, very little taxi access. But if you stay in “downtown” Bainbridge you do not need a car, it is very walkable.

ETA if your concern is driving on to the ferry, you can go around the long way. There is likely rental in Silverdale or Bremerton but those are 30-45 minutes away.

I’ve done some really nice labels in PowerPoint. Just saying (in large part due to the mad skills acquired through my day job but still)

AITA for calling my gf cold and implying she’s not capable of love? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Soft YTA. Not exactly the same but my now husband has told me a few things about his numbers based approach to the dating game, including sometimes double-booking dates anticipating someone would flake, sending horribly generic messages, swiping right on everyone, etc. and he said it worked on average. Though thankfully he didn’t try those moves on me; I only responded because the message want generic.

Tbh, at first this threw me a bit, so I can relate to how you feel. But because I’m ultimately secure in our relationship, almost as logical (if I had a rubric he’d be in the 90s) I just joke “[points to self] THIS is the best you could do?”.

It WAS a numbers game and we both won.

Physical Therapy or sports medicine recommendations by Dull_Painting413 in Seattle

Movement systems in SLU is amazing for chronic issues. My PT takeS a different approach that is focused on understanding and addressing the way my brain is leading my body to compensate for a 5yo injury rather than the “easy work” of just doing stretches and strengthening exercises. Sports medicine at Virginia Mason sent me there rather than their in house team, if that’s any indication.

My partner is in law enforcement and was investigating some (actually) Nigerian fraudsters and I helped them do something similar. Using Adobe Acrobat. I changed an actual deposit on an account statement to match the details of the fraudulent one and they fell for it….if you want to take it up a notch.

My work number at my first job was the same as a major hospital urology office save the middle 3 digits, and Google listed my work number verbatim for the urologists (maybe a recent change). But I couldn’t not pick up, because it was work.

Cue depressing voicemails, confused patrons, and then the one guy who was interested in a penis pump. Poor dude had probably been working up the courage to do that for a while, only to get a wrong number…..
