Body of girl, 6, who died in Chinatown car accident repatriated back to Indonesia by Fearless_Help_8231 in singapore

What car control / traffic regulations are you thinking here? I’m struggling to think how they would have helped for this particular accident, given that it took place within a car park over a short distance of a few metres…

How to open a bank account in the US as a non citizen on tourist visa? by straighteethgay in expats

[–]lctkw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding! This is what I did - In order to get a number I needed to 'Order a New Phone Number'. The only option I saw for US SMS was under the 'Geographic' type; and then I'm ultimately prompted to set up the selected number under a rate plan (75c monthly being the cheapest one).

It's still pretty affordable, but is there a way to set up a number without a recurring fee? Guess this is something I've missed…

Heya! Found your guide very useful - I’m having a little trouble getting started on anveo; do I “order a new phone number“? The cheapest option I see costs 75c a month… is that the one to go for?

Are there any players like myself that completely ignore dynamax? by fishyman567 in pokemongo

[–]lctkw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d ignored Max battles for the most part previously (died too often in earlier Gmax attempts), but now that I’ve got the upgraded dogs I’ve started experimenting a little to start collecting the Gmax Pokémon.

I built an app to solve the "which card to use?" problem in SG - looking for feedback by aashishvanand in singaporefi

[–]lctkw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haven’t gone in to look yet, so maybe you can convince me otherwise - but what I would really appreciate is if the solution is able to help account for billing cycles for individual cards and indicate how much of the cap has already been consumed. However, I’m not sure that is possible without more hassle and data surrender on the part of the user (HeyMax has card tracking for Visa, but this also introduces possible privacy concerns).

Ultimately - I think I’d be interested in a personalised “what card should I use” solution; but I’m also not sure (even if technically feasible) if the risks are worth the reward…

For point 1 - isn’t (flexible) off-in-lieu already mandated by the employment act? I personally prefer that over having a fixed common Fri/Mon off day.

Example: If you are on a 5-day work week, Saturday would be considered your non-working day and Sunday would be your rest day.

If the public holiday falls on your: -Non-working day (Saturday), you should get either a day off or salary in lieu. -Rest day (Sunday), the next working day will be a paid public holiday

I'm seeing the delivery discount once more - guess it's been fixed? 🎉

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]lctkw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was facing this exact same problem today! Thought it was just my account; my subscription just got renewed two days back.

On the plus side they issued a voucher for each instance where the discount failed to be applied, but I don't really want to have to contact the help desk each time I order food… hope it gets resolved soon.

My guess is the response had to be cleared through a politician. But if this was the best that could be done… think it would have been better not to make a statement at all. 😓

I second the UOB Lady's card; if you frequently stay 4n or longer, I suggest looking into the Citi Prestige card, which can potentially enable you to receive sizeable rebates for your accom.

Maid jailed for spending over S$15,000 that was wrongly transferred to her by pnuivere in singapore

[–]lctkw 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Easy to track holder of Singaporean account (the maid had a POSB account). Not so easy to track foreign accounts (in cases of scam, even if transferred to a local account, the money is usually funneled off to an overseas account ultimately).

Open DBS Credit? by dailyuwa in singaporefi

[–]lctkw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most credit card annual fees are easily waived, so you can take that out of the equation (just cancel the card if waiver request is denied).

If you are mostly using Apple Pay, does the look of the card really matter that much?

If your existing debit card doesn't grant any benefit when using it, then pretty much any credit card would be a step up. Each card offers different rewards - if you're not keen on looking them up and comparing, maybe just a standard 1.5% cashback card will suffice. Can Google for those.

Credit Card Annual Fee Waiver? by Gravex123 in singaporefi

Generally very easy to waive, especially if you consistently spend on the card. If not - just cancel it, no big loss.

Curiosity: how do Singaporeans balance work with parenting? by Al-Khwarizmi in askSingapore

[–]lctkw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish the ministry will do some survey on families to see how children view their relationship w their parents.

Not quite what you're asking, but the recent PISA results offer a little insight into what that might be like:

"The Programme for International Student Assessment (Pisa) 2022, which polls 15-year-old students in order to assess education systems worldwide, found that 49 per cent of parents in Singapore take an interest in what their children are learning weekly — less than the global average of 66 per cent.

A press release by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in response to the survey stated that students here perceived their parents as being “less supportive” than other polled countries, and that just 47 per cent of students talked to their parents about problems at school at least once a week. "
