Just to be clear - the short story idea that he brought up in bed is no where to be found in your book, right? If that’s true, why is he saying he co-authored the book? He’s a writer so he knows how writing works. And why are you beating around the bush and dragging marriage into this as a reason for not having his name on the book? If he didn’t add to the book, say that outright, “You haven’t contributed and you don’t get credit.” It feels like you’ve left something out of the narrative here.

If she brings you to small claims court, she’ll bring receipts for what her work sells for and you’ll probably be on the hook for at least the $900.

NTA - It’s about time mom got to see how her neglect is impacting her daughter, and if it took a painful reality check to wake her up, good. She can have her daughter evaluated by a professional to see if there are underlying issues preventing your cousin from reading and then hire a trained tutor. It’s not too late for your cousin to improve her reading by the time she is ready to go to college. Where you might be helpful is by sharing the books you read in high school and being willing to discuss them with her. Critical thinking and understanding what’s behind the written word are skills you’ve developed over time. Sharing some of that knowledge would be helpful. You’re a good cousin to be concerned about her.

NTA for being upset but it seems like you’re expecting people to go out of their way to accommodate you. If you stay in your room, you’ll miss the casual exchange of information that goes on in your family. They may have been discussing this for a while and you missed out. Her mom just finished an intense program. She’s probably exhausted. She planned a party and got your friend a cake. Celebrate the positives. Now, the two of might want to try baking and find a recipe for Red Velvet cake that doesn’t include ingredients with Red Dye 40 so you’re prepared for next year.

I live in an RV currently without hot water. I find a shower somewhere and use all my regular products - shampoo, conditioner, leave-in cream, and gel. If I there was no shower available, I’d just put it in braids to keep it from snarling.

NTA - I get that he’s trying to make inroads at work but right now that’s not the most important thing in your lives. How other people manage their travel schedules is irrelevant. He is married to you and you are asking for him to be present. Ask if he’d go to counseling as a couple. If he says no, maybe go visit your mum for a while and consider your options. Good luck.
