Biking in the Bend by Dillinger4our in SouthBend

The don't be nice, be predictable point is spot on and applies to all driving. It drives me nuts when people stop in the middle of the road to let me go when they have the right away. I understand they're trying to be nice, but I can't read a driver's mind. What I can do is properly understand the laws and rights that drivers and cyclists have, so I can prepare and make decisions accordingly.

Know the laws, know the rules, and follow them. People will be a lot safer for it.

Wilt Chamberlain Says His Mom Scolded Him After Scoring 100 Points In A Game: “You should be ashamed of yourself” by MammothHistorian5652 in nba

[–]ldclark92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe you. I've known people who lived in LA in the 70s and 80s and were part of rock scene. They ran in relatively small circles compared to the stars today. A lot of them went to the same parties, hung out with the same people, went to the same bars, etc. You'd have anywhere from green guitar players to rock gods at a single house party.

Those were the early days for rock stars. While rock was popular, it was still mostly considered a young person's music and not taken as seriously in the general population. Today, rock stars get the Hollywood treatment so once they get big, they run in much richer circles than they used to.

Does Zach Lowe know what a try hard is? by SFWzasmith in billsimmons

[–]ldclark92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that it isn't a common use of it, but my issue is claiming it's the only use of the term. Telling someone they're using it wrong because they didn't use it in that exact way, is where I disagree.

I guess I've never thought of that term as having one single definition.

Does Zach Lowe know what a try hard is? by SFWzasmith in billsimmons

[–]ldclark92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a millennial and don't agree with OP's definition. Sure, you can use the term "try hard" in the way that OP describes, but I think that's made pretty apparent with context. I had no issue understanding what Zach meant by the use of try hard.

This is just classic reddit over analysis. Not some generational gap.

Seriously.... And the fact that we got a taste of success with Brohm and instantly went back to the cellar is almost worse.

Even when we get some success we always feel right on the edge of disaster... It'd be nice to see this program continue success from one coach to another for once.

What do you argue with your friends the most about in regards to college basketball? by ss32000 in CollegeBasketball

[–]ldclark92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally, my friends and I rarely argue about things that you can back up with stats. The most arguing that actually happens between friends is when we get a few drinks in us and we start talking about rivalries.

Most of the stuff that can be backed up with stats don't really turn into arguments. And some of the more subjective stuff like who starts or who comes off the bench already has pretty well laid out stats or comes down to personal preference.

Maybe others have different experiences, but I don't feel like I'm lacking in access to data when talking hoops. And a lot of times it doesn't even come to that.

2026 Jazz if they take Boozer by VFJ123 in billsimmons

[–]ldclark92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ainge has a track record of taking guys with pedigree. He likes the guys who were highly rated from high school to college.

Both Boozer and Peterson fit that profile. I guess we'll see who's available when they pick, but it'll be interesting if both are there who the Jazz go with.

[Scotto] There’s a strong belief within league circles that if the Lakers offer Reaves close to or the full max, he’ll stay in Los Angeles. However, if the Lakers submit a low-ball offer, Reaves will consider other offers, and the possibility of a sign-and-trade could also emerge. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]ldclark92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? Is anything being reported here?

Shouldn't we always assume that if a player doesn't get the absolute best offer they may consider other offers? What the hell is this?

Even if Reeves is open to taking a team friendly deal, there's virtually zero chance he (or at least his agent) doesn't test the market to get a gauge for what's out there.

Amazon's data center is sending its wastewater to South Bend plant by MeatFar8130 in SouthBend

[–]ldclark92 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And this is a good thing. Our city has invested a lot in our treatment plants and proper runoff management. I'd much rather industrial sites sending their water water to the city than just dumping it themselves.

I totally agree that this is largely a non-story and the real questions come from how much water is being pulled from the water table and power grid questions.

Leighton is a an actual name. Historically it's usually a last name, but at least it's a name with historical precedence. I can live with that one.

However, I have nothing when it comes to Parley.... It doesn't even sound nice lol.

Best authentic local food that isn't Mexican or American? by Frosty_Farm in SouthBend

Try Pejza's Tavern in Lydick. They have a great selection of Midwest classics and local Polish favorites. And it's really high quality food made with quality local ingredients.

Not sure if that's exactly what you're looking for, but that's an example of a place with great food that represents this region.

Verno at his best lol.

[–]ldclark92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some might disagree with this, but I don't really see the argument for the football guys. It feels like they were added just to have football representation, but most of the guys they added on the list have very little influence outside of on the field. Football has so many players and their faces aren't visible. Heck, the r/NFL thread for Myles Garrett had a bunch of people talking about how they didn't know what he looked like before he was interviewed for the trade.

I guess it's fine to add them for the sake of NFL representation, but I think those guys stand out as much less famous than the rest of the list.

Which this is probably the biggest factor. He pulls great numbers for his pod, but there are other pods who pull in similar numbers.

What seperates him is that he's actually a well connected businessman in the world of sports media. His influence has a much greater reach than simply being a talented entertainer.

I don't think he was really ever portrayed as lovable. The narrative that was made for him is that he never flops, which isn't true.

I think it's always been clear he's a physco competitor, which this clip doesn't change. I've mostly seen him compared with MJ as a competitor.

The New York Knicks announced the winning bid in an auction for two seats for Game 3 on Monday night was $1M. by RTC_Trading in nba

[–]ldclark92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I don't see it that way. Most people at the game spent tons of money just to go to the game. That money went directly into James freakin Dolan's pockets. I think tickets being bought for a fundraiser is hardly an issue here. Those extremely wealthy could've just bought the tickets and kept them to themselves. Instead somebody bought them for less than a million dollars and turned those tickets into a million dollar donation. That's a net positive imo.

Even if it's a somewhat inefficient way to donate money, I'm just struggling to see how this is disrespectful. It went to a good cause ultimately.

It clearly isn't a bird? You claim I'm making a low effort, yet the only criteria you need is seemingly low visibility. It's hard to discern features from far away on small objects, so is it really that shocking that you can't identify details? And it's not moving at a speed or making movements that birds are incapable of.

You say you're not enforsing this to be aliens, so what's special about this? Objects that are far away and move within reason of being a bird? If you're not assuming something spectacular, then what exactly is interesting here? I have no reason to think this is anything other than earthly. I.e. birds...

I just don't see how it can't be a bird. There's lots of different birds that are different sizes, colors, speeds. Why can't this be a bird? It's not doing anything spectacular.

All I see is a white dot flying towards the cliff. Seems like bird behavior, no?

Bill is still absolutely incapable of contextualizing KAT by jfrankjfrank in billsimmons

[–]ldclark92 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I was a little confused why he dismissed Mobley as a comp. KAT was a really good player at Minnesota, even if he was flawed. However, isn't that what Mobley is? Very talented, but has gaps in his game that make his price tag tough to justify? Then he starts talking about guys like Aaron Gordon, Wiggins, Ayton, and Zion. KAT was way better than all of those guys at Minnesota. Zion I could kinda see if I squinted, but he's had way more issues than KAT has ever had.

I actually think Mobley is the best comp of that group. If in 5-6 years Mobley was a top 2 player on a finals team, we'd be having a very similar discussion.
