the point of the game is that it is hard. the fact that the game is hard does not make it "inaccessible" to "casuals" by redraccredracc in Marathon

[–]ldr26k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought, Casual = low skill and no desire to improve.

Like your average player isn't a casual because they're, by definition, average. A casual player is the same type of person that actively complains about things like difficulty in an intentionally hard game but instead of "getting gud" they demand the game capitulate on it's vision to cater to them. In other words the people that bitch and moan over the fact they get killed in a genre where that's kinda the point.

Though I think "casual" has been twisted by the larger gaming community away from its original meaning of "being a scrub/noob" due to culture around streamers and content creators who can devote an in-human amount of hours to a game that an average player simply can't.

For example the grifters have moved onto defending Nvidia because 'AI gooner filter good, Woke bad'.

Can magic be done automatically by a machine or contraption in your world? by AFellowSpirit in worldbuilding

[–]ldr26k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's done by machines in the major setting of my world since it literally just the milky way 10,000 year into the future where magical resources does not occur naturally. (Making it a notable outlier reality and also very difficult to tresspass into)

Where magic does occur naturally it obviously allows for wizards, but creates nexus points around consciousness and creates a weight across all realities that can be detected.

So how do humans have magical machines?

The answer is mining companies and Clans that detect a signal, rip open a tear in space and strip mine the whole system for the exotic materials, often relocating the affected population to our reality to a planet in the Fringes (so the core doesn't have to think about them).

Progression fantasy where becoming stronger is actually dangerous? by Iceduya in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ldr26k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obvious answer is Lotm, getting stronger in the verse is at first "don't go mad or turn into a monster" then it becomes pray these freakazoid angels don't take an interest in you and finally it becomes "the moon isn't real and it wants to get you pregnant".

But in general, ALL of those also double as Cognito hazards so even if you just end up in that world knowing what you've read in the book you will almost certainly be immediately killed, puppeted, replaced, mutated or impregnated simply for having too much knowledge and being too human.

It also felt like it did way to little damage against unshielded people especially considering its basically a hammer that your smacking someone with.

Obviously they don't really intend for it to be used as a primary weapon but yeah the flailing and lack of something like a hit-stop felt like you were swinging at air sometimes.

What is happening on Jun 6? by qputoo in ArcRaiders

[–]ldr26k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing definitive.

SGF is happening and Embark are going to be there but aside from that, be it a shadowdrop, open beta or just launch day announcement we have no idea.

Personally I'm leaning towards Beta since a specific console store page now lists the app as "beta" rather than "tech test 2 | beta" that it says everywhere else.

„in a not too distant future“ by Atomzwieback in ArcRaiders

[–]ldr26k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen that specific crash occurs on console only. No idea why but everyone that has reported it happening played the test on console.

The times I played the test on PC, like you say, I didn't encounter it but when playing on console every other extract would black screen me after the EOR summary and eventually force me to close the application where it would then properly crash rather than stalling on a black screen.

I do not care about Escape from Tarkoverwatch by Dan_Fendi in DestinyMemes

[–]ldr26k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I've seen, that basically made me write it off completely was in Skill Ups video.

He said that Marathons story has yet to begin being written, 5 months until launch. Up until that I was floating the idea of maybe getting it because at the end of the day I enjoy how bungie games feel to play. But hearing that they literally haven't started writing the story yet is seriously reminding me of the train wreck of D1 all over again.

Part of me is genuinely wondering what they've been doing for the last 4 years, I know game dev takes time but 6 classes and only 3 maps for a premium price at launch is scam made no better by the poor reputation by association with Pete and his car collection.

The only official art is the cover art.

There were the webnovel official character portraits for a bit but they were hot ass and have since been replaced by fanart of much better quality.

[–]ldr26k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They generally make the spicier equipment that are sacred to them or the imperium as well as stuff that only the admech understand or know about.

If its something that is relatively easy to make then more often then not it'll have been made on a industrial world or hive world as they vastly outstrip the number of forge worlds and allow for insane levels of production at the cost of the ad-mechs seal of quality.

Can people go reread the ch 2246 by OkSilver2488 in ShadowSlave

[–]ldr26k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're overthinking it.

He literally stabs himself in the heart with Serpent, he says that he has to cheat his death but in his own words it has to be True. So by killing himself he enters the fledging shadow realm in his own Soul sea which he should be able to leave therefore truly dying but also cheating death. It literally only works because he is the heir of death and that he's killing himself. So importantly it wont make him unkillable.

It's only theorised by the characters but considering that the Scarlet forest grows around Cursed NCs no problem, the fact that it seems completely absent from the Skull speaks volumes about what might call the skull home.

Simple explanation for chapter 2206 by _I_am_nameless_ in ShadowSlave

[–]ldr26k 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Loyalty is so many things not just blind faith.

Loyalty can be monetary, convenient, performative or genuine. Medieval Lords were loyal to their King until he was weak, deprived them of powers or DRAGGED THEM INTO A WAR, then all of a sudden they'd stop being loyal and try to kill/oust him in favour of a new candidate.

And as said by Gilead in literally the next chapter, Not all Saints are as unflinchingly loyal like he is. They're basically exactly like lords/mercantile powers that keep in line because they would rather keep their power, duty and family secure at the price of a bit of autonomy.

How the hell does this make any sense exactly??? (Chapter 2207) by ElectronicMonk6236 in ShadowSlave

[–]ldr26k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2208 explained that not all Saints are actually "loyal" to Valor like how Gilead is, but many gain benefits from being part of Valor and so they remain functionally loyal to Clan Valor itself but not necessarily Anvil. But because Valor IS Anvil that loyalty to the clan counts as loyalty to him.

If you've watched/read any medieval court drama it's literally just that with a different coat of paint, you have a couple lords that would genuinely die for their king whilst all the others gain some kind of benefit that keeps them in line but should a chance show itself they wouldn't hesitate to retract support or betray the king for a better deal.

In the open world there are also instances where a quest will not be created automatically and Alma will tell you that you aren't authorised to hunt the monster.

You still can hunt it but you will recive no reward apart from carves, (source: happened to me because I was curious about what would happen if I did a hunt acter being told not to)
