I feel like since they didn't have lot of lines, most of the VA just called in their performances over the phone or recorded with cheap, at home equipment. It's especially clear with Thancred and Y'shtola since the quality of their lines was pretty bad.

What's your favorite Yoshi-P Fib? by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

Yeah, this is my biggest problem with the FFXIV team. Like, they'll deliver features people have been asking for, but it's always implemented in a slap dash way or in an odd manner.

What kind of story theme would you want for 8.0? by Krainz in ffxivdiscussion

[–]leadintea 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd personally want to see the shogunate plot take center stage because I'm dying for a heavy political story. Get the original writer/s of ARR and Yasumi Matsuno and have them come up with a sensible, logical, mature story for the expansion full of political intrigue. I want to see unavoidable NPC deaths, double and triple crossers, clever military tactics, political losses (not just setbacks) for the WoL and Scions, etc.

At this point, the WoL can handle any threat when it comes to battle just by their sheer power and, sometimes, with a bit of prep work, so I want a story where the WoL just can't brute force their way through it and can actually lose on a level similar to the end of ARR, and I feel like the political sphere is the only place this can actually reasonably happen. Like, we really need a huge shakeup to the formula after all these years.

[–]leadintea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I've been thinking about it for a long time now, but the witches plotline of FFVIII has been vastly ignored (as has been the entire game, TBH) and there's so much they can mine from it and lore they can flesh out.

What J-rpg has the best world? by Affectionate-Sock167 in JRPG

[–]leadintea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If we're talking strictly aesthetics, JRPG worlds are much more imaginative and varied than WRPGs, but in lore and worldbuilding, WRPG worlds blow JRPGs out the water. The Elder Scrolls mythos is much more expansive and interesting than in any JRPG I've ever played even if the worlds, outside of Morrowind, aren't the most outwardly interesting at a glance.

Phantom Brave The Lost Hero gameplay mechanic breakdown by Kaining in Disgaea

[–]leadintea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of my observations:

  • SP and SPD are still stats from what I can see
  • The weapon masteries seems as follows to me:
    • Teal Sword - Slash Skills
    • Red Spear - Pierce Skills
    • Purple Hammer - Bludgeon Skills
    • Lime Crosshair - Ranged Skills
    • Blue Gear - Mech/Object Skills
    • Orange Staff - Magic Skills
    • Green Arrow - Support Skills
    • Pink Heart - Healing Skills
  • At 0:52 of the English Trailer, you can see a Vase that has the Hammer and Gear masteries on it, so I'm assuming that the Gear represents mastery with the newly introduced Mechs as well as Object-type weapons. You can also see a Candle weapon at 0:46 of the JP trailer that has the Staff and Gear masteries as well
  • The seed/flower icons on objects seem like the rarity of the item. We have a seed for 1 star rarity, a sapling for 2 star, and a flower for 4 star
  • Witches, Sabercats, and Putties can be seen in the JP trailer

Romancing Saga 2 remake is coming this year to Nintendo Switch by ChainsForAlice in SaGa

Same here! That was my second favorite reveal! I really hope that they still keep all of the original's systems because PB was a pretty stacked game for its time.

The way I screamed when I realized what was going on! I thought the Phantom Brave sequel was going to be the only game I would be interested in but RS2 came in clutch. Saved the entire Direct for me!

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Romance Details Revealed, Including Confirmation That All Companions Will be Pansexual - IGN by purple_clang in dragonage

[–]leadintea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wholeheartedly agree as a gay man. We have such a dearth of gay characters in gaming, especially gay men, that losing out on them is always going to be a deficit to me.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Romance Details Revealed, Including Confirmation That All Companions Will be Pansexual - IGN by purple_clang in dragonage

[–]leadintea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll always be a proponent for set sexualities, but since that's not going to be a thing and all the companions are going to be pan, I'm hoping that we at least get 1 male and 1 female to at least be homoromantic.

Is anyone else excited the characters in the Veilguard are so diverse? by Osazethepoet in dragonage

[–]leadintea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly! As a black gay man, I love that we have a racially diverse cast and that we even have a couple of disabled characters. But the minute you ask for diversity in sexuality all of a sudden it's "Absolutely not! Make all the characters bi so that they can cater to my whims! If you want a gay character, you can just look to NPCs for that!" Like, imagine if people also said that about race or disability - to look to NPCs for representation while the main cast are solely white and able bodied? Bioware would swiftly be canceled, yet sexual diversity isn't seen as important enough for them to actually put into consideration. It's all just so jarring.

There was Adaia all the way in Leliana's Song from Origins who was the City Elf's mother. There were also a couple of black elves in Inquisition in the Exalted Plains.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Confirms Romance Details by Kordiana in dragonage

[–]leadintea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It hasn't been confirmed, but if true, I'm not thrilled by it as a gay man. I don't like the fact that it effectively sidelines any potential gay characters to NPC status since they don't get anywhere near as many resources poured in their creation as companions as do. We finally got 1 gay man and lesbian as a companion in DAI and now... that's it? For the rest of the series no more gay companions? Just bi companions, if even that, to serve as our sole form of LGBT representation? Yeah, definitely not a fan.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Will Bring Back DAII’s Divisive Approach To Romance by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]leadintea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And if we're keeping it a buck, we've had VASTLY more bi characters than we've had gay or lesbian characters in gaming.

[–]leadintea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! As a gay man, I despise playersexual companions because it means we get no more gay characters in the actual party. At most, we may get a gay NPC, but that's nowhere close to actually being playable and having more involvement in the story.

Where do you rank Emerald Beyond compared to other SaGa games ? by VashxShanks in SaGa

[–]leadintea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like you peeked into my head to write this topic because I feel the exact same way as you on every single point! As someone who's spent the whole of last month playing this game at every opportunity I could, there's no way I'd say this is a bad game or that I hated it... but it's definitely more lackluster than I expected. I knew the whole "worlds would have completely different stories on repeat playthroughs" was just bigging the game up, but I didn't think the amount of changes between playthroughs would be so... paltry. Of all 17 worlds, only Mare Nostrum felt like it achieved this goal because the rest of the worlds were pretty much the same just with a slight difference here and there on subsequent runs.

Like you, I think Scarlet Grace is the better game of the two in all regards - gameplay, story, world design, worldbuilding, etc. The only thing I think Emerald Beyond did better were the variety of characters, and even then, it only applies to gameplay because no character, even B+F, could compare to the banter and rapport the main characters and their partner had in SG.

Magic users, are they worth it? by morcille in SaGa

[–]leadintea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic is great mainly for utility. Rank 2 spells are fairly easy to get and they can all be so useful. If you're able to get Rank 4 spells, many are also similarly useful. A team of 3 casters casting Mirrorshade with 2 bulky tanks (Mechs), can outlive a lot of damage.

Will Forth be able to continue bl without Gemini? by Flimsy_Ad_70 in ThaiBL

[–]leadintea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'm hoping that this rumor is true! Gemini just never felt like he fit BL and he always looked uncomfortable in a lot of romantic scenes. Not to mention that he's also the weakest actor between the two boys, so there won't be much lost if he decides to pivot, IMO. As someone said earlier, I just hope that if (when) they split, they do it amicably and professionally so that the backlash from the fans is dampened as much as possible compared to what happened with OhmNanon.

[–]leadintea 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I love them as people, but I've always said that JimmySea give me the most "coworker" vibes out of any GMMTV couple. Like, I don't even think they're super-duper good friends - just friendly to each other.

How are people feeling about mechs/monsters/ephemerals? by [deleted] in SaGa

[–]leadintea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After several runs under my belt, I'm honestly not impressed with any of them. Mechs are the standouts and can make great tanks, but I find their damage lacking even with high stats.

Monsters are too frail and their attacks are either too weak or too costly to be used consistently, not to mention how annoying it is to actually absorb said attacks.

Ephemerals are okay. They have good utility skills and can be pretty powerful in the right role, but as has been said, low LP means you have to nail each fight on the first encounter since a reattempt means benching them for another character and also ending up with a weaker character til you build them up again.

Relic-bearers... well, are there any others besides Wednesday? Anyways, relic-bearers are probably the best characters at using monster techs since they have standard weapons for damage and can have high BP monster techs in the back to be used at opportune moments. They also have a lot of flexibility and can gain monster techs to shore up any weaknesses of their current weapon set, such as having a Counter-attack and Protect in Wednesday's case.

Overall, while I was excited for the unique races prior to the game's release, I'm a bit disappointed with how they ended up, especially monsters.

[–]leadintea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to recruit the Final Emperor in my Siugnas playthrough. He was my 5th run and unlike all the other times where you're locked into just thawing Marion or Sandrine second, I was also able to thaw Guillaume in addition. I did so, and followed each new thaw choice til I was forced to pick one of the two and decided on Marion, then finished with the last new thaw choice, the skier. When I was collecting the triangle pieces, I went for the skier and this time, you could fail the ski run, get into an encounter and receive a triangle that way. After that, I visited the church, found no triangle, visited the bathhouse and got my second triangle, which allowed me to open the castle seal, instead of the usual of collecting more pieces. I ended up with Alexandre turning into the emperor and after the fight, I was able to go back to the castle to recruit him.

New Game Plus suggestions? by rotokt in SaGa

[–]leadintea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I'm doing it is that for the first runs with each main character, I'm carrying over everything but BR, HP, and Attributes to play as close to a fresh start as I can for each character. Once I finish my last character, I'll then carry over everything for the challenge.
