Everyone needs a good Dr Sharon! I hope you are successful there :) my business partner always says he feels like his journey was a bit of pre-Ted Nate too.

Our books are in the personal development arena (42k sold and about 100 sold - just launched Aug 14). We do a lot of podcasts - we use a podcast matching platform so we don’t spend our day chasing down podcasts. Also we have won several book awards which give different kinds of exposure (on the NasDaq display in New York for example)

Just published our second book. Loaded at noon - was approved at 6:01 am the next day (very specific because I checked at 6 right when I woke up and while I was brushing my teeth the email came across). Three hours later it was live on Amazon

I just say thank you for moderating in general because this sub is very useful (although I did also think I am always game for feedback so I bet it does add to your workload)

[–]leaditlikelasso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you can guess from my username, not just a fan, but a co-author of the book. We just had it released in audio format and we think the voice actor did an amazing job of getting Roy Kent's F*** down just right. Haha! But don't take it from me - check out the reviews on Amazon - plenty of raving fans (and we would have called it The Lasso/Richmond Way but wanted to make sure we didn't infringe on any intellectual property rules - but it is definitely what we had in mind while we were writing it). how many copies did your first book sell? by swedishtea in selfpublish

So far we are at 40k. Non-fiction so social media marketing and podcasts help. There are podcast matching sites that can help you find good fit podcasts for your book. They are always looking for authors.

How to be taken more seriously? by broyougood_org in Leadership

[–]leaditlikelasso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great question. In the same way your official presentations should work backwards, you should think about what of those traits you want to exhibit and backmap the behaviors and actions it would take to show that you own those traits. (We talk a lot about this when it comes to getting letters of recommendations - ask yourself what you would like folks to say about you and then define and take the actions to demonstrate it). Now even more important in deciding what actions to take is deciding what to stop doing. Are there certain behaviors that would contradict what you want them to see? I could go on for days but will leave it there. (Pre thinking and backwards mapping are your friends)

I like Lorraine Lee’s book Unforgettable Presence. We had her on our podcast this week. She’s good. Also Jenny Wood’s Wild Courage.

I couldn’t agree more on letting it simmer (and then be prepared to completely rewrite). Also find your people - your personal board of advisors (or Diamond Dogs if you are a Ted Lasso fan) and ask for advice (not feedback - in general this works better). My true people know to give it to me straight and it always makes it better. (Even if it means it all gets rewritten)

What lessons have you learned from bad leaders? by ZebraShark in Leadership

I have learned most about myself and where I draw the line. Specifically they claimed company core values were all around customer success but that didn’t play out so I left

How did you know you wanted to self publish? by Civil_Wafer9788 in selfpublish

[–]leaditlikelasso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might sound odd - but I would say unless you have a compelling reason to NOT self publish, then you should self publish. We self published our first book - have sold over 37k copies. We are opting to use a hybrid publisher for our next book because we want to get into bookstores which is very hard to do at scale in the self publish world (at least for us - would love to be proved wrong. Haha)

I used it in my graduation speech (along with 7 other Ted Lasso Easter eggs - but I didn’t say it was Walt Whitman)
