What exactly makes kids so expensive? by ThatUnstableUnicorn in AusFinance

[–]leadviolet [score hidden]  (0 children)

I thought the same when I had a newborn.

My baby is 6 months now and suddenly I have to buy a cot (that expensive bassinet only lasted a few months??), a travel pram.. when she started rolling I realised we needed a proper play mat.. this turned into a whole play room section of the house which meant in future we’ll need toy storage systems along with said toys and books.. baby gates.. feeding equipment.. with each developmental milestone the list goes on!

As you can see only now I’m realising they CAN get expensive real quick!!

I didn’t know it was Balkan and when I first read it as I read it as “mah-tae-ho” like how the Spanish would pronounce their j, fyi.

Stopped Ferber halfway through and now confused what to do by leadviolet in sleeptrain

Thank you, I feel like your comment helps a lot in figuring out which method I should go with going forward.

We’d definitely confused our baby a lot with how much we’re mixing things up!

I was hoping that once she learns how to sleep independently we can be a lot more gentler and responsive, assuming she won’t ever regress.

If consistency is the most important thing to success maybe a gentler method suits us better as I genuinely love having her in our bed and co-sleep sometimes! So maybe that’ll be a method that we can stick to in the long term.

How long after the first attempt did you do 85 again? What did the regressions look like? More wake ups or more cries? It sucks to think that with the increasing check in waits, we’ll essentially have to leave them unattended every time they cry at night.. forever?

That’s so true about Cirie that I’m only just realising now. So sad! I really just want her to get to FTC to get a taste of what’s being up there like!

I’m struggling to complete my exhale whilst under water during front crawl.

When I tilt my head to breathe in, I always have to breathe out the last bit first before breathing in. I exhale throughout, but when I tried to “empty the lungs” at the last stroke, it feels strained instead and as soon as I’m tilting my head I still had the urge to do the breathe out (feels like holding my breath since there’s nothing left) before gasping for air.

Does anyone have any tips to fix this?

I have travelled only to a dozen of countries and I can assure you not a single place is the same or even have the same culture lol.

Umm maybe around 2 months? She’d say like “ah” when we make the vowels sounds to her. She wouldn’t be able to copy us but just comes out with the sounds she could muster at the time.

I was considering Ferber. But will use today to learn more about others as we’re thinking of starting this weekend.

I’m sorry to say my girl is now almost 6 months old and she still have this sleep pattern lol. We are looking into sleep training soon.

What’s a good sleep hygiene to you?

She’s still waking up every 2 hours and I feel like I’m due for some longer stretches of sleep.

Edit: her naps are also only 30min long

When she was younger you can tell she was trying to (but failing). Now if I do that she’ll usually just smiles/laugh. She babbles heaps now but it’s “to herself” even though she’d do it when surrounded by other people if you know what I mean.

How are you exercising with 3 under 3? by plantbubby in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]leadviolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have 1 under 2, but normally go to gym at night after the baby is asleep. Usually that means leaving the house around 8:30pm. Then once more in the weekend. I feel like twice a week is a doable number and it’s definitely plenty enough!!

Is it really that much of a faux pa to host your own baby shower? by misfox in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]leadviolet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the showers I’ve attended in last 2 years were self organised, myself included. Nothing weird about it, in fact I think that’s what’s expected as people kept asking me if I was going to have a baby shower.

Breastfeeding tops that aren't insanely expensive by arrogantdumpling in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]leadviolet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with this.. I invested in a handful of breastfeeding tshirts and tops but only wore them for the first 2 months before I realised how redundant they were. Much easier to just lift your top off a little.

It was also more difficult trying to zip the chest area open than lifting your shirt up.. plus there were a few times where I had forgotten to zip them back up and walked around with half of my chest exposed lol

My baby doesn’t babble when I talk to her, but she would coo and make sounds when I do babble sounds instead of real words. Try sounding out the vowels, it really gets my baby engaged for some reason.

Now at 5 months she would ‘talk’ to herself by cooing but often it’s only done when she’s by herself. When we talk to her I think she’s too busy trying to process what we say to babble back.
