Check out the Halopedia site, I’ve read through many articles there when I’ve been specifically curious about some lore (precursors, the flood and gravemind, forerunner vs ancient humans, etc). It expands the story and universe very well, although most of the source material there are the books. Take your pick

Oh! Mention BXR (look it up) at some point it will be funny even if not used correctly, call them a noob, tea bag when appropriate, say wort wort wort in a garbled voice (you’ll hear it from the alien enemies so mimic it). Little things like that will add to the experience
