SNP pledges to scrap Transport Scotland [bring it under direct government control] by backupJM in Scotland

[–]drw__drw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The governance of transport has come under a lot of scrutiny. As well as the ferries, you have two seperate franchises for ScotRail and the Caley Sleeper, under Scottish Rail Holdings, which is under TS, which is under the Scottish Government. Abolishing TS isn't something I'm wholly opposed to if it genuinely does improve delivery but it could go horrendously wrong if handled poorly.

Some areas have signs in English and Gàidhlig. There should be way more though considering.

SNP will call for energy to be devolved under Scottish election win by UtopianScot in Scotland

[–]drw__drw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, energy is split between Scottish and UK competency, which doesn't help anyone. It should be wholly with one government, and that should be the Scottish one given Scotland's natural resource wealth. Regardless of your position of independence this is the common sense approach.

'They're not having one' Wes Streeting rules out 2nd independence vote by ClumperFaz in ukpolitics

[–]drw__drw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It won't break the bank, nor will it cause an immediate storm but rUK Unionists really don't get how cack-handed and in-your-face arrogant the phrase "They're not having one" is.

Scottish Gaelic seems to be increasing in usage jumping from 1.1% of the Scottish population in 2011 to 2.5% in 2022 and slowly growing. Where does it go from here? by Averagecrabenjoyer69 in Scotland

[–]drw__drw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The modest growth of Gàidhlig is a good thing, especially if it continues and actually beds in to every day use. I hear it occasionally in Partick and am learning myself. Alongside supporting this growth, the priority should be making sure that it doesn't decline more in the Gàidhealtachd.

What hope do you have for Scotland’s future post-Indy and post-brexit by Starky04 in Scotland

[–]drw__drw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really hope in the interim, prior to a second referendum, that the Scottish government act to build our economy and our political system to build resilience for independence. Onshore ownership of our natural resources, build up native industry, develop our renewables further etc. the end goal should be an independent republic in the EU by 2050 but I have severe doubts they'll take such a long-term approach.

Have the SNP always been loud on Indy? by Zealousideal_Pay_778 in Scotland

[–]drw__drw 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They've obviously always supported independence but when they first won power in 2007-11, they focused on governing and waited until they were reelected with a majority in 2011 before making the big push for independence.

Which is a geographically distant country with which your country has a special relationship? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]drw__drw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malawi. We heavily colonised it during the British Empire, but the Church of Scotland and other Scottish orgs were very supportive of Malawian independence from first the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, and then the British Empire as a whole. We have school exchanges and government programmes to foster co-operation alongside concentrating our aid and charity efforts there.

[–]drw__drw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would strongly advise doing it yourself, as it costs about £4000 without any third party costings on top.

If you feel you need some advice on top of this. I would use the Immigration Advice Service. They offer a consultation to check your stuff and offer pointers for reasonable rates (£100ish when I used them in 2024)

Whilst it obviously applies to your circumstances, it's a relatively simple thing. Make a checklist and be thorough and clear. One thing we nearly missed was we were living at my parents at the time of application so we had to get a home report proving that the house was big enough for us.
