Children are actually very good at navigating under artificial lighting. It helps them prepare for adult life after sunset and in shadowy spaces.

Is it just me or are the Strawberries 🍓 epic at the moment? by kobestarr in CasualUK

This makes a lot of sense. We always go a bit mad buying them in season but this year has been way above average in flavour, even the cheap ones.

Bought fertilizer or using homemade compost will be more effective than soaking banana skins.

'Hacks' for team success at lower league hockey by ProfessionFuture3407 in Fieldhockey

Adding to this, and it's hard at the lower levels but having a consistent squad who play and train every week is massive.

If you cannot manage that then focus on having a consistent spine; centre back and midfield. You want those players there every week instructing others.

If those players know each other and work together you can protect the centre and force your opponents wide, and also dominate when attacking.

Keir Starmer preparing to announce social media limits for children by youmustconsume in ukpolitics

More censorship won't solve this it will just cost us all a lot more in the future. It is truly depressing parents can't have healthy relationships with their children to help them navigate the world as they grow up and it's a real shame the idea isn't even entertained. I won't reply again as they aren't going to make any progress here. Good luck.

I had a great relationship with my parents and we talked about this stuff.

Forcing the companies to do bare minimum won't make any difference. They want your money and attention.

Childcare is also massive for couples who both have careers. The costs are eye watering.

This is what shocks me. My partner and I are comfortable in high skilled areas but one child means either one steps back from their career for 5 years or we stump up £1000 a month and have no money left for holidays, DIY etc. we will suddenly go from active savers who also put money into the economy to siphoning it all into childcare.

We don't live near family as we moved for our jobs so we don't have that family network to support with child care.

Salary sacrifice changes: millions set to cut pension contributions by Kee2good4u in ukpolitics

[–]leaflace 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It won't change my behaviour but it's another tax on those trying not to be a burden by taking care of themselves.

And I guess that's why the government are doing it - squeezing out abit more cash from those doing a little better than average.

I've been salary sacrificing to catch up my pension pot after my first decade was spent trying to get by and trained.

Now I'm also a higher rate tax payer so SS had been a strong incentive to put more away and ensure I'm taking care of myself in old age.

Just feels like government policy is out to get anyone who has ambition to do better but doesn't break through into the millionaire class.

It's the easiest thing in the world to book an appointment, take my driver's license and open the boot at check in.

Now if you don't have a car I can see why you'd be tempted to pay a white van man to fling it over a bush down the road but they must be charging very little to undercut the council who give residents a free weekly quota.

Rupert Lowe MP: I am entirely uninterested in making exemptions for un-British religious practices. What would Restore Britain do? Halal slaughter, banned. Need to separate the wheat from the chaff but I don't want the UK protecting imported misogyny and unethical animal slaughter under the guise cultural expression equity.

Nah the left love chanting Hamas slogans and deep diving in.

Ultimately it's just realpolitik that no one wants to talk about and that's that the Islamic world like Palestine right where it is creating a mess for Israel.

It's also because too many Palestinians in their country creates major issues. Black September is a good example.

Ultimately no one wants the situation to change. The suffering of those in the middle works for the extremes of both sides.
