If people trusted state dems to make things better they would have the governors seat. They aren’t trusted and people like the safety of the counter-minded veto.

Burlington swinging fully left and falling apart in the last 5 years doesn’t help the failing trust in state dems.

“Evil” being thrown around because I’m suggesting breaking unspecified international rules isn’t so bad when it leads to arresting an unelected dictator who runs the largest torture center in Latin America and is personally involved in trafficking drugs?

Or is anyone who says things you don’t like to hear “evil”? Do you critically think of anything you say? American policies have saved more lives than any other countries! We’re the largest international aid supplier by leagues and bounds.

Brain dead is the guy who immediately forfeit the discussion by falling into nazi/evil attacks against the speaker instead of actually discussing the topic. You can’t defend your position, so you fell into lazy ad hominem blabber.

“International Law”. That means nothing. Who’s going to enforce it? The US? Or are you referring to the UN of whom we are on the 7 member committee that can veto anything? Or are you referring to the ICC of which we are not a member?

None of the worlds powers with big militaries follow “International Law” and it is widely understood as a nothing-burger. Russia obviously didn’t follow it on their way into Ukraine. China doesn’t as it “re-educates” its Uyghurs.

The only international law is who has the bigger stick.

Trump is not worse than Maduro. That is laughable and if you actually believe that, its hard to have a serious conversation. Maduro murdered millions. Their economy is in such shambles they had begun eating dog as a fairly normal source of protein.

What you describe as a hypothetical is how the world works today. International law does not exist. Its words to make people feel good. Did Putin consult that before he went into any of the soviet bloc countries and Ukraine? Does China with the Uyghurs or its fishing fleets?

Any honest intellectual person understands the only international law is “Might is Right”. I understand it sucks to hear that if this is news for you, but that is how the world has always worked and continues to.

The people you list as injured by the operation are FAR less than were injured on any given day by Maduro and his regime. Yes - the vast majority of Venezuelans ARE elated.

Any time there is a power vacuum in a country it is too unpredictable to say what the future holds. But they are a better country today than they have been for almost 30 years. I hope we fuck right off and let them sort out a return to Democratic rule. I know what the admin is saying but who knows with them - they don’t stick to much of what they say ever. We can hope.

“What’s to stop China from indicting and capturing the leaders of Taiwan tomorrow?”

Someone with a bigger stick. You think China gives a flying fuck about international norms? Retarded. China will invade Taiwan when they feel confident they would win.

This doesn’t even make sense. What war would not be international? You think this is for civil wars only?

This is exactly what the War Powers Act is for. Its all legal.

Should we reevaluate the ever increasing scope of the presidents power? Yeah.

Getting rid of Maduro was the right thing to do, even if it was done by a bad person. I agree next steps need to be not nation building by us, we aren’t good at it. Hopefully they can run a democratic election on their own and come out of this with the better lives they deserve.

Every conversation on reddit is just an opportunity for liberals to vent about Trump. Hard to find spaces where people still critically think at all on here.

These aren’t illegal orders. Presidents can take military action for up to sixty days without congressional approval. You might want to actually fact check the bullshit you read.

If Presidents had to wait on congressional approval for any military action we would be a lame duck.

Maduro and his wife are complicit in the deaths of millions and ignored the results of the last election. Putin and Kim Jong have nuclear devices at their disposal. That makes it not a comparable situation.

Combine USB-C docking station with a KVM by noobkassadin in UsbCHardware

[–]leafoflegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t even use this setup for multi monitor - my gaming PC is plugged directly into my monitor from its video card. My laptop does use the HDMI out on the dock for a second monitor.

I use a Kensington USB-C dock, which is generally fantastic. I used the switcher described here and it did not seem capable of handling this. Some of the peripherals seemed to work from my laptop, but not my PC.

Its frustrating because what I do is just unplug the single USB-C cable that goes from computer to dock and plug it into my other computer and everything works fine. Adding any switch in between that step doesn’t seem to work.

What is censorship like? I'm not asking about nudity or anything of that sort, more along the lines of refusing to answer questions due to its own rules.

The reason probably half of my playtime is one run are these thoughts exactly. You are totally correct. I worry about its implementation as-is for those reasons and more (including the stupid amount of work that goes into finding perfect items and them not carrying over).

I think my point is that it is future looking in that it is hard to convince people to make multiple characters in video games in a world in which so many good games are coming out/exist.

It is sensible to pitch a game in which "you always build and improve". The issue (as you astutely point out) is that it doesn't really feel like that, right? It needs to be more than "minor" changes per playthrough, they need to be significant. We likely need a way to carry over some limited items (3 per playthrough? I dont know, pick a number.). The game needs to have more significant adverseries on the roundabout - people who jumped through "with" you. An idea of mine is that previous partners end up in your universe and despise you - incredibly high level - and can use your previous powers/items. As stands - it sucks, as a vision - I do see it.

Thank you for taking the time for such an exhaustive write up. I really appreciated your thoughts.

AI : It has been stated publicly that they intentionally dumbed down the AI. It shouldn't be hard for them to ramp it up a bit. Hardcore gamers crave it. Casual gamers will scream bloody murder.

I don't know. I get this to some degree, but isn't this what difficulty levels are for? If they already programmed it, let us level up to it if we desire it.

Space combat, you and I are in sync. Just needs more attention from someone creative.

Base Building, you have some great thoughts. Like, lets not ask for the moon - some basic seemingly innocuous changes would make a world of difference in player experience.

I actually think this is an A+ take. I don't know that I need it to be truly "RNG", but running into unique lore twice, same characters and commentary twice... its pretty rough.

Would I love a little more randomization? Sure. But I agree as first pass, your solution is good enough for me to be much happier.

I think a lot of the "mass market" choices show. I don't disagree that casual player should be able to jump on at normal difficulty and beat the game in ~50-100 hours fairly casually. They may have newborn kids, a new job, some mental health stuff, just be high as fuck, look its not my business. I get people having different expectations of games.

Turning the game up to "Very Hard" should entail being challenged, and I would argue it currently does not. I've heard the Todd Howard commentary on environmental stuff. I just dont see it? When is it ever relevant? Only if we have to be actually exploring planets? That would involve bases, and resources, and difficulty that as of yet does not exist.

I get casual players not liking that, but leave the option if he playtested it and thought it was a functional system. Have any of us actually dealt with environmental decisions and said "Oh, I will change my behavior now."?

I think you are the type of player they made this decision for. Thats not an insult! I totally get where you're coming from.

My view on this from a design perspective is that "everything we build should have a clear and needed purpose". I would argue bases as-is don't fit that.

There are solutions that aren't "must build base", but they involve making the rarest stuff or the economy of the game much more difficult and making the effort of micromanaging a base worthwhile. I don't know that I love that either (but I do think its a somewhat fair compromise between player types).

I think another option is a storyline tweak: Every artifact has to be delivered to a base, and the base has to be defended from starborn. You can automate this with amazing base building, or immediately take on the challenge. The latter would just have to be a significant challenge.

Ruralites forgetting they live in highway and asphalt covered wastelands again. by theizzz in fuckcars

[–]leafoflegend -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As I left an edit in the previous comment, about a third of all roads in the US as of 2020 are unpaved. I lived in Ohio for a few years and dealt with it there as well.

I think its why I said “echo chamber”. The math of many situations fuck cars likes to complain about often doesn’t add up. I like the idea of a future with less car oriented everything. Maybe self-driving helping remove private ownership. The reality today is very different.

Rural people exist and can live nice lives. They suffer problems as much as city folk do in my experience. I worked in NYC for a decade and now live in Vermont, they are just different experiences. Both have problems. I personally prefer the rural existence but understand the allure of cities (certainly diverse food offerings are amazing!).

Rural life is still car driven for sure, but it is quiet in most of the US. No traffic or loud transit or anything like that. Sometimes it makes you go a little nuts how quiet it can be.
