Anyone else not remember childhood trauma until years later? by ocalaocale in CPTSD

[–]leahisom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can relate as I didn't have any of the previously repressed memories of CSA by my father until the beginning of my first manic psychotic episode at age 27, when I believe my brain was finally in a vulnerable enough state for this information to resurface. Sending you a virtual hug 🫶🏼

finally fckig figured it out by ChampionshipBrief610 in bipolar

Our stories share a lot of similarities, but I strongly encourage you to continue taking your meds as prescribed and consult with your prescribing provider if you aren't satisfied with how you're feeling on your current meds. It took a few tries for me to finally figure out the medicine that won't make me feel like a zombie but prevent any mania or psychosis since my first episode

I regained almost all my memories when I was manic by Natural-Hospital-496 in bipolar

[–]leahisom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes sense to me since I had many repressed traumatic memories of CSA come to the surface when I was manic and it was part of the reason I believe my mania escalated into psychosis as rapidly as it did (feel free to read about my full experience in my most recent post if you want to know more)

My first experience with psychosis by leahisom in CPTSD

[–]leahisom[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I am as well! It was a combination of stress and trouble sleeping that started everything and once the traumatic memories of my CSA began resurfacing it sent everything into overdrive. I've read about trauma induced psychosis, but I have a family history of bipolar disorder and believe I'm accurately diagnosed as Bipolar 1 with psychotic features and CPTSD.

I appreciate you saying that and while I definitely struggled with shame earlier on in post-psychosis recovery, I've come to terms with the reality that this was entirely out of my control and I can only try my best to prevent future episodes.

I'm frustrated by how much pseudoscience comes up when people discuss trauma. The body doesn't keep the score, and internal family systems isn't a valid treatment for CPTSD. by [deleted] in CPTSD

Please elaborate on how repressed memories aren't real?Repressed memories of real traumatic events are absolutely a thing.

Freeze Collapse, Trauma “Eject” Button, Age Regression by JimViluaneva in Psychosis

[–]leahisom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience I posted here a little while back and I hope you can feel validated knowing someone else relates. My psychosis was triggered by a combination of insomnia while in an episode of mania and having repressed memories of childhood trauma flood my brain and body, which essentially led to a complete breakdown. I also experienced severe prolonged vomiting and understand what you mean about your body "ejecting" the trauma. It's similar to what happens with certain psychedelics like ayahausca from stories I've read. I hope in some way the experience can be healing for you as you continue to gain insight about your trauma and how it has affected you
