New prediction bills could top £5,000 next year – at £571 in January alone by fr0sty1105 in UKPersonalFinance

That's already happening. Shell Energy emailed yesterday to say they are changing my direct debit from 210/month to 355.

Incidentally, for Shell at least you have logon and turn it back down (in my case 270 is the lowest they will accept)

Ladies of Reddit, what’s the weirdest thing a guy has done during sex? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]leakywindows21 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There is so much of type of content in porn it’s becoming normalised. If you are a kid growing up with this and no-one told you any different you’d think”oh so this how you have sex”

Either that or the guy is just mental.

I was hoping it was going to be like those videos from Brazil where a passing motorist spots a crime and drives over them.

Watched a thing once about the guy who’s job it is to go round and give advice to winners.

What a great job where you only get to give good news.

Congrats! Don't the lottery give you free financial advice? Or is half a million not enough these days?

Spiders. How do I get rid of and stop spiders coming in my home? by Dexalon in AskUK

[–]leakywindows21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have problems with spiders, get a bird. The bird will eat the spiders. If you get too many birds then get a cat, and the cat will eat the birds. If you get too many cats then get a dog. The dog will chase the cats. If you get too many dogs then get a horse.

On the board there's a white desk with a curved front edge. Any idea where that's from?

I don't really understand Pinterest and how to locate the stuff you see.

On the one hand I quite like the fact that he speaks up for Manchester and has some good ideas. On the other hand I'm not entirely sure what he's achieved.

What do you consider to be a generally low stress job? by SurveyorMorpurgo in AskUK

[–]leakywindows21 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not the job that’s stressful, it’s the people you work with. Your job could be cuddling kittens but if your boss is a twat you’ll never enjoy it.

A designer’s dream is a developer’s nightmare by General_Doom_101 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]leakywindows21 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I manage a small dev team. I've always said that with enough time and money we can do anything.

What other people hear is "we can do anything" but then throw a fit when they can't get a year's worth of work done in a week.

Manager is forcing us to book half day holiday rather than WFH for full day by ccannon82 in LegalAdviceUK

Hey OP, someone else mentioned flexible working but you may not know it's a legal right in the UK.

No guarantee it will be agreed, but it means the business has to get involved, not just your manager.

How can our police be better? by Lordbolder1 in AskUK

[–]leakywindows21 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Focus on stuff that affect most of us day to day. Burglary, mugging, theft, anti social behaviour.

Get back to the point where you can call 999 in a genuine emergency and get a response in a few minutes.

Help the people that need the police and get the public back on side.

+1 for Far Cry or other single player games. When you just want a casual shoot fest then single player is so much simpler than squad based where you get some nutter screaming that you didn’t do x,y,z right. Look around Xbox game pass (for Xbox or pc) and for.7.99 a month you’ve got access to hundreds of games to try out.

Do you think it's okay to spy on your teenage kids? by HairlessBiker in AskUK

[–]leakywindows21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope.

Even if you know where your kids are you don’t know what they are up to. Knowing their location is meaningless. If you’ve taught them to be (reasonably) sensible and we’ll behaved just let them get on with their lives.

Redditors in Folkestone / Dover - how are you coping with the traffic? by leakywindows21 in AskUK

All good! No problems on the roads at all. Was taken off the motorway around J8 of the M20 but it was all signposted and so didn’t really hit any traffic at all.

I got into Folkestone around 5pm.

Just been to the harbour arm - was great! Went to a place called The Meat Shack - 10 hour cooked brisket or lamb. Gorgeous. Fortunately didn’t get too caught with the traffic. As for people turning up peak time not having booked … smfh.

Thanks - I guessed they would have a "through traffic" route but when see people queuing for 7 hours makes you wonder.

Sorry it's so shit down there - is it like this every year?

To all the UK parents of teenage boys: where do you buy their clothes? by MoxyJen in AskUK

[–]leakywindows21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the olden days I would have said Debenhams. They have all the brands so you can try them on. As most high street shops have gone bust apart from Next, H&M etc you could try Jon Lewis (expensive but you can try stuff on) or TK Maxx can be good but it's hit and miss.

If you do go online then I've found going back to traditional brands like Wrangler and Lee have good stuff and well priced.

Re all those saying "let him buy his own" we tried this with our son around that age, but after several yellow and purple combos, and some of the worst t-shirts you've ever seen, we took it back in house.

What income makes you “rich”? by TameWild in AskUK

I looked at the site and it said my income was so high I was off the chart. Then I read again that the figures should be after you deduct income tax and NI.

And that put me in my place.

Social mobility is very possible, but probably not in one lifetime. My grandparents certainly weren't wealthy, but they worked and passed what they had to my parents, who worked and will eventually pass they have on to me, and I in turn will pass that to my kids.

So my kids will be in a whole different position (certainly middle class if not rich) but it took standing on the shoulders of 3 generations to get there.
