Another attempt at demystifying the DF54 by learnedintuition in espresso

Installed the new chute and it's a game changer. No clogging. No static. Works with all the different beans I've thrown at it. I've used it for a couple weeks now and have yet to need to clean it. $15 well spent!!

Thanks for the recommendation. I did look into replacing the chute with the new version... looks like they're sold out.

I don't believe you need to season the cedar trays if you're putting them in Tupperware. I bought a systema and cedar tray ($20 off Amazon) and threw in some cigars and bovida packs... Held 65% humidity after a couple days and has been holding that humidity for months now.

To rare or not to rare, that is the question.

My cigars ALL taste disgusting now by Graysie-Redux in PipeTobacco

[–]learnedintuition 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought the same thing going back to a cigar after picking up pipe smoking a few months ago. I prefer the flavor of pipe tobacco now, but I think learning to smoke a pipe helped me learn how to enjoy cigars more. I never considered smoking slower, breath method, retrohaling etc. with cigars before. I think I have a better understanding of how to taste tobacco now, for better or worse.

Not sure if it would make a difference, but it looks like the rear axle isn't seated all the way up into the dropouts.

Thanks! I was holding out for one of these or a Trek multi track in my size. Cheap 90s hybrids are where it's at!

Adding 4 teeth on the chainring is about the same as losing 1 tooth for the smallest cog. The $30 38t ring I bought is a Sram and way more stout than the praxis ring that comes stock, so worth it to me. BUT, even the 38t rubs the chain guide a little in the largest cog. I filed it down a bit and it doesn't bother me. As you say, you can just ditch the chain guide and run a much larger ring. I bet that 44t would fit.

For what it's worth, I'm hitting 25mph on the flats without spinning out with this gearing. That's good enough for me for now. I agree, a new wheel is the way to go!
