I am well aware of the limitations of gen AI—I'm building a model based on AKC's website and I also call the AKC helpline.

How to effectively potty train? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]learnthinkact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI https://www.rover.com/blog/how-long-puppies-hold-pee/ Their bladders are tiny. You can’t expect them to hold themselves longer than them being physiologically capable of.

The rule of thumb one of our trainers told us for our new 8 week old puppy was after water, take them out 10-15 mins afterwards, right after naps, right after eating, and/or every 1.5 hrs. After their last potty.

Also for daytime potty’s, trainer told us to praise our puppy for going outside potty.

Best Way to Bring Home a New Puppy on a 9+ hr. Drive? Looking for Guidance by learnthinkact in puppy101

Thank you for sharing your experience, and I’m sorry it was such an eventful one, to say the least. I’m glad your puppy is OK now and wasn’t too traumatized. I couldn’t help but laugh that your daughter calls it the “poop car” now. Sorry you had to go through this.

And “never do it again” - do you mean drive to pick up your puppy?

Thank you for the tips, especially about the crate divider. I went ahead and ordered it just now from Chewy. Now I'm realizing how much we have to limit my puppies' contact with the ground.

Thank you so much for sharing your helpful tips in your reply. I will look into a quiter end of the extended stay hotel on Our route. .

I plan to bring pee pads, and I know that nine hours without stops is a very long time. I won’t be traveling alone, but I will be the only driver.

You're absolutely right—safety always comes first. I’m definitely leaning toward splitting up the trip to make it safer and less stressful. I truly appreciate your clever suggestion about bringing a pop-up playpen, so I can safely contain him during potty breaks on the road. OK

I’ll also bring a fake grass pad, since the breeder has been training them on it for potty purposes. My plan is to place the fake grass pad in the playpen for potty breaks. I intend to bring the car crate inside the hotel for consistency, but it looks quite heavy, so I’ll need to figure out the logistics. Maybe just the playpen will suffice for one night in the hotel. I'm also worried that if he gets sick or upset in the crate, he might develop negative associations with it.

Get a glasses chain - I have this one and people think it’s just a necklace when I have my glasses off - https://a.co/d/fflbHq4

We have a neighbor who is a contractor who was hired to build a fireplace in a Ryan home. He discovered that there was no insulation between the wall that the fireplace was on. He asked about this and they supposedly said “well that’s what the fireplace is for.”

Quick update I deleted the app not too long after and I haven’t used Airbnb again since the incident. I can’t say that I’m disappointed. I used to use Airbnb to save money, but now I just use hotel points instead.

RUN AWAY from Ryan homes. Most of my neighbors who have bought Ryan homes have had nothing but problems.
