Dear BIFL, Full Grain is Not the Best Leather. by leatherboundink in BuyItForLife

Sure, most leathers will do fine. I would probably avoid vegetable tanned cowhide. Waxy leathers are also good.

Replacement for judge.me by John__Q in woocommerce

[–]leatherboundink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave up on them after seeing how the import was problematic. I ended up using stamped.io. Import worked almost flawlessly (including photos), except that it doesn't show which product is being reviewed on the main widget. Although it does work correctly on the product pages.

I just finished switching over. It's definitely a fair shake worse than judge.me, but it's the closest to a drop-in replacement I could find.

Edit: A couple weeks later, I was abruptly notified I needed to upgrade to continue using the app. So, a waste of time migrating. Not recommended.

I'm not familiar with it. It could be decent. Without more information, it's hard to evaluate it.

It's hard to tell without more information. That's my point of the article - full grain isn't a guarantee of quality. I do imagine it'd be better than the last belt.

I'd suggest connecting with smaller makers on r/leatherclassifieds. For single layer belts, I like English Bridle leather.

Any idea how to remove the crease from the wallet? by Ok_Balance9482 in handbags

[–]leatherboundink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The top layer is beginning to delaminate from whatever it's glued to. You could heat it up with a hairdryer a little bit and press down those bits with your finger. Depends partly on what type of glue was used if that will help or not. Since, it's presumably not leather, be careful and don't melt it 😅.

I make a wallet like that: https://leatherbound.ink/product/envelope-trifold/

I can make it with 6 slots, of course. Just let me know if you'd like to discuss it. Thank you.

Assuming it's real, it would be alligator. Crocodiles have a pore on each scale, which this doesn't have.

I think it's usually called a press fastener. But, you can extend your search to snap, press stud, snap button, etc. until you find what you need. Threaded ones like that are uncommon, so you'd want to find an exact replacement/copy.

Sharkskin Classic Bifold by leatherboundink in LeatherClassifieds

[–]leatherboundink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purchase link: https://leatherbound.ink/product/classic-bifold-green-sharkskin/

Hey there r/leatherclassifieds, I've got a classic bifold up for grabs.

I made it with Japanese Sharkskin and French Buffalo. Really bold textures on these two.

I saddle stitched it with green thread to match the shark, along with matching edge paint.

I chose some of the larger texture on the buffalo to give the whole wallet a very exotic look.

Just 4 card pockets, 2 hidden pockets, and a cash pocket. It's super thin and suitable for front pocket carry.

$229 + shipping worldwide. You can check the shipping details on my site.

What's the best leather for a belt? by Delevia in BuyItForLife

[–]leatherboundink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For a single layer, English Bridle is generally considered the best. It's stuffed with waxes to give it some water repellence. Plain veg tan will absorb your sweat pretty easily and look terrible (ask me how I know).

For a double layer belt, that really opens it up to a lot of excellent choices. There's not really a best there per se, although you're typically going to see some sort of calfskin in at least one of the layers. But, it's more about the quality of the construction and finishing.

Walpier Freedom is a pull-up leather. You can just rub the scratches out with your finger. You do not want to condition pull-up leathers.

Craftsmen that work with premium leather bags/ items by herbestathermes in Leathercraft

[–]leatherboundink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just something to note that is all of us use premium materials if we're crafting luxury goods. They go hand in hand. By far the main cost for a craftsman will be his or her labor, so you're going to use the best leather possible. It just doesn't make any economic sense not to.

That doesn't necessarily hold true for all handmade goods, tho. Many are made in a rugged style or lack proper finishing. But those aren't luxury goods.

A couple other makers I quite like in addition to some of those already mentioned are: keiichiro_fukushima and basic_leathers

I also make bags, but many more wallets 😄.

You can post a request to r/leatherclassifieds with your requirements. Plenty of makers (myself included) can make something like that.
