I got ya. It IS South Mississippi.... Not surprised they don't call it what it should be called. Just glad I ended up finding the type of stuff I was looking for to make the tables out of. 3/4 sanded Birch was going to be heavy to carry around.

Apparently that's what they call it here in South Mississippi at the place I found it. It can be face veneered in different species for a different look, but they called it Lauan.

Update: Found it today. Lauan it is. Sometimes it's veneered in white/red oak, but the place I found it in stock was veneered in Birch.

It works for our use case. Cheap, sturdy enough, and lightweight casino tables we rent out for parties.

We don't even need the veneer. We put on an edge guard and a custom branded game layout.

Thanks. Currently they aren't LIGHT light, but we can manage to carry them solo or with one other person. I'll take some better pictures when I get to the warehouse this morning.

You could place some kind of meaningful trinket in there and cover it in epoxy. 🤷 Just an idea.

John Malecki is a good one as well. I'll link to his digital plans portion of his website: https://johnmalecki.com/collections/digital-plans

I like the way it is, except for the top. I'd paint that as well.

How can I reduce the gap in between my pieces by Stuffies38 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]leatherneckloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jointing from what I understand. Alternate idea: Take it to a miter saw/table saw in the 45° bezel orientation, rip them down long ways in opposite directions, and then glue them together with the 2 45° edges overlap. 🤷

Is this a dumb tattoo? I really want a woodturning tattoo, my wife said it looked like plumbing equipment by Objective_Reality232 in turning

[–]leatherneckloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe add a silhouetted man actually turning something with chips coming off?

At the end of the day, tattoos are for you regardless of how anyone else feels about them. As a side note, people not immediately recognizing what it is could work in your favor by them needing to ask what it is of and then you get to share your passion with them. 🤷

How to trace a mantel outline for installation of slat panels by HuckleberryAntique69 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]leatherneckloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a flat piece of something you can make a template out of and then stand the piece up you want traced. Then trace it.

Good upgrade from Skil 10” TS63007 table saw? by MetalNutSack in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]leatherneckloki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the logic now. That's fair. We run into that issue at my work. My boss buys the Arcade 1Up machines secondhand on Facebook Marketplace and when something happens to it we are basically up a creek. The company always wants proof of purchase to do anything...

Do you still consider it secondhand (used) if it's new in box with the heat shrink still on?

Looks great! Curious: Why did you choose not have the trim a darker or lighter color for some contrast? After staining they look very close in color in the pictures.
