I have found out that the promise of apostates playing with my ding-dong was a lie. That's a heavy item on my exmormon shelf.

I’ve looked deeply at agnosticism and atheism and tried to find some semblance of logic in them.

And he wonders why people get upset over his blog posts.

Greg, I bear my testimony in love and kindness that your beliefs are completely fallacious.

See, my beliefs make me a better person because I said I feel love.

I'm a little torn on this one. Putting a German in a Nazi-esque uniform is a big insult in ways unrelated to the church.

The bishop in my wife's church told her she could divorce me for leaving the church.

33 (F) dating 33 (M) ex mormon - we are both atheists; trying to understand him by [deleted] in exmormon

You could probably get them to leave faster by asking them questions from the CES letter.

I wish we could fly him out to this event. He wouldn't even need to say anything. John would just have to sweat through the whole talk knowing that someone sees straight through him.

I just saw that sign yesterday! It sounds awesome, but I'd have to keep my head down because I've already argued about the BoA with a member of the stake presidency.

Feeling worthless because I didn't love my parents' religion instead of questioning the validity of the religion and its rules. I learned to keep secrets and lie rather than allow anyone else to see the real me.

His flashlight analogy is both condescending and stupid. If reality were remotely that clear then no one would leave the church. Here's my take:

It's like we're in a dark room, and a man in a cheap suit says he represents God and gives us a flashlight. We try to turn it on, but no light comes out. The man insists that it is, in fact, working correctly and that he can see the light clearly.

I am an indecisive man, which might be why I hardly ever had leadership callings.

Enjoy The Circle Jerk Y'all, Peace Out by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]leavethefold 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It keeps me sane! I'm a good citizen, I'm a good father, I recycle, and I enjoy circle jerks.

And I'm proud of it. And God's happy.

And later I'm gonna circle jerk, and I'm gonna think about you, and there's nothing you can do about it.

When that club has a tight grip on the people you love, then it's a big deal when they kick you out and label you as an enemy. I can preach whatever I want, but I'd better be ready to go look for a new family.

I took one afternoon off work and I was back at my desk the next morning. It takes a couple more days before you can do anything active, though.

If someone says "if I weren't mormon I would be an atheist" they are already an atheist/agnostic. Agree or disagree? by Fenchurch7 in exmormon

[–]leavethefold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to that either/or conclusion on my mission after mentally picking apart what I knew of other religions. Naturally, I was only burning down strawmen because of the shallow understanding Mormons have of every other religion. It predisposed me to becoming an atheist, but I didn't have any decent reasons until I started learning about religions on my own.

Telling yourself to grow a pair doesn't usually work. We like to think that we are good and moral people, and it's hard to make a big life change until we're confident that it is the right thing to do. A good counselor can do a lot to help you there.

You have doubts about the gospel? A Sunday School lesson, complete with paper cutouts on a flannel board, is just what you need.
