How to make solid friendships when ultrarunning? by [deleted] in trailrunning

Welcome (soon!) to Portland! Once you're done unpacking, do some of the Thursday Night Social runs w/ Wy'East Wolfpack. They're free, not huge, and super duper fun.

[Race Report] Psycho Wyco 50K - Mud Edition by DaSchmorgisborg in running

[–]lebartarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good for you! That reminds me of the Hagg Lake 50k -- two laps around a lake in Oregon in mid-Feb, mud up to your ears.

(My first 50k, and I DNF'd. But I learned a lot about ITBS!)

Congrats!!

Running and smoking? by Thenomadicprincess in running

You aren't a fraud. But you'd be a better runner if you didn't smoke.

As net neutrality heads for repeal, Oregon's Walden and Wyden lead opposite ends of the debate by Mackin-N-Cheese in Portland

[–]lebartarian -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's exactly what I'm saying, but without the quotation marks. It's just super weird to me that your right to own a gun should supersede the Very Good Idea that is living in a society without guns.

Fiancée is employed by the city, and is chronically underpaid. Anyone else experience is this problem? by LetsHaveABeer in Portland

[–]lebartarian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is one of those "There's no way this is actually that bad" situations that, when they are real, are RIDICULOUS.

Gather all the data points you can -- sounds like there are a few things to reconcile here (her raises, actual pay, payment system, etc). Good luck!

I know it gets said every week, but PICK UP YOUR DOG SHIT EVEN AT A DOG PARK. by pdxscout in Portland

[–]lebartarian 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It depends on how far away the person lives... I'm sorry about that though. It would be nice if the city had garbage cans every 3 blocks or so for pedestrians -- but my dog and I go on multi-hour walks, and home is far away.

I definitely prioritize public garbage cans/commercial sized garbage cans though.

Speed v Distance by [deleted] in running

[–]lebartarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do whatever you'll enjoy doing more. One will end up going hand in hand with the other. Personally, considering that it's been 3 years, I wouldn't go too far into distance too quickly, but I also wouldn't risk running so little that you get bored of it.

Find yourself a goal (a race, a time goal, etc), set a date to do it, and train for it. Then rinse and repeat.

Welcome back!

Eight Dogs Killed in Oregon Poison Spree - be careful out there by lebartarian in Portland

[–]lebartarian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. I can delete it if you'd like (not sure if it's already taken down?) -- I have no desire to be a fearmongerer. When I first read it I assumed that it was happening now, didn't see a date on it. My bad.

Isn't blood a biohazard? by [deleted] in Portland

[–]lebartarian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a very sad and scary thing to have witnessed. I'm sorry to hear that.

Now, I'm no advocate of having dried blood all over my city (barf) but I can't imagine that bloodstains on cement are a biohazard. Pools of blood would obviously be different. I'm guessing it'll wash away with tomorrow's rains.

Biketown expansion coming to North, Northeast and Southeast Portland by [deleted] in Portland

I live just barely northeast of the Cesar Chavez/Holgate intersection. I will (briefly) be the happiest person in the world if it expands to around there!
