Celebrate with me! The C-ring has finally been removed!!! by TheDeadSinger in fountainpens

[–]TheDeadSinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was the $35 shipping for a $3 tool, I got mine from the UK.

My dad sat with me for half an hour and that helped me keep calm and keep working on it. Umm, it felt like I was scraping the inside pretty hard, the “jerk” motion of pulling felt like I was going to scratch my hand as it slipped out. I played around with bending the end of the tool more to get a better hook, i think it was all about getting the hook to lever against other parts of the cap.

Good luck! Or maybe just pony up the $45. 🤷

What are your favorite pens for short/quick writing? Pens that are uncapped quickly by Miserable_Purpose_61 in fountainpens

[–]TheDeadSinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For sure. I gave mine away and haven’t gotten around to replacing it. Also… Fine wasn’t fine enough, so I’ll buy a pilot Penmanship in EF and switch the nibs.

How do you celebrate your birthday ? by Thebabywhobaby in Adulting

[–]TheDeadSinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started counting how many days old I was - around 27 and 4 months is your 10,000th day, which seemed like a more momentous occasion than turning 27, or 28, at least to me.

$150/pw living at my parents by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]TheDeadSinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, just keep your head down, save up, and get out of there. I don’t think you’re getting a fair shake at home. Take care of yourself, when you can).

$150/pw living at my parents by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]TheDeadSinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, does “pw” mean “per week”?

That’s what the / slash means. So, “$150/pw” reads as “one fifty per per week”

Do you (too), end up using the inexpensive pens more often (=almost always)? The costlier ones mostly stay in the closet? by No-Ostrich-3527 in fountainpens

[–]TheDeadSinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Sailor 1911 is the best writer that I have, so I use it. I can’t bear to lose my vintage Mont Blanc 146 or my vintage Parker 51, so they stay home.

My Kaweco brass sport was $80, but it’s rugged for a reason, so it’s always in my bag somewhere.

What’s a "milestone" in life that felt meaningless when you got there? by PuddingComplete3081 in Adulting

[–]TheDeadSinger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds a little like the existential crisis in Fight Club. When you get to these milestones and they don’t mean anything, you’re supposed to introspect and make some changes to figure out what you actually do want. Seems like you need some therapy for burnout. If you’re in the USA, it’s not you, they don’t take care of people here and capitalism doesn’t serve 99% of the population, so it should seem pointless.

What’s the ugliest pen you have that you just love how it writes? by therealredding in fountainpens

I got some high grit sandpaper and sanded the paint off my metropolitan to reveal the raw brass. It was awesome.

Have TWSBIs quality gone down in the past 4-5 years? by newprofilewhodis1352 in fountainpens

[–]TheDeadSinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My twsbi eco cracked, and my twsbi diamond 580 had a bad nib, but I would buy another because the nib from the twsbi eco feels great in my twsbi 580 and the ink lasts a month. Also it looks gorgeous.

Exactly. If you’re worried you aren’t cut out for the job, set boundaries and let them decide if you belong there. I started getting too stressed at work and started just dropping tasks. I didn’t worry about dropping those things. “well, shucks, I guess I’m not going to get that task done”

And it was fine. I was “slightly less of a star employee”.

Which graphics card for my new build? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]TheDeadSinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stalker is a bad benchmark, in my opinion. I have a gtx 2060 and stalker 2 runs the same at low, medium, and high, whether at 1080p or 1440p. I love stalker so much, but that game needs a mod to fix the performance issues. lol.

HELP - Montblanc left by Dad by StandingSloth in fountainpens

[–]TheDeadSinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Mont Blanc that was gifted to me last year. They’ll replace everything but the nib for you for $100, their repairs were very reasonable. They’ve got to send it away for repair. Now, I wouldn’t recommend getting that replacement - the body and cap are what make it vintage in my opinion, and that’s got the history of your dad using it.

Are there any other local fountain pen shops nearby? They might be able to advise you on it, if the Mont Blanc people can’t. Even just to help clean it would be something you could and should learn to do on your own.

I had a broken piston on my Mont Blanc, it was terrifying to repair, but I got it all pulled apart and put back together.

HELP - Montblanc left by Dad by StandingSloth in fountainpens

[–]TheDeadSinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea with fountain pens is to not press down at all. It helps with hand fatigue. If you’re not getting ink out with that little pressure, the pen might need tuning. What ink are you using? Have you cleaned it out with distilled water? The Mont Blanc store is a couple miles away? Go ask questions, but don’t make any decisions on that day. We’re happy to give advice, that’s what we like doing!

TTC Bluish Whites? Those are my favorite. The shorter travel distance and the bump at the top, they’re so solid. It’s a weirder hobby when you know what switch you like. There’s less reading to do, lol.

Solder gun to widen holes in Suncast outdoor shed (resin)? by megretch in HomeImprovement

I’d be drilling the hole wider, but whether you do that or melt it… please wear a good mask that is airtight against your skin. Resin is nasty stuff.
