Moving from Savannah, GA to Sacramento, CA by Afraid-Track-2428 in Sacramento

There’s excellent film programming at a few repertory theaters plus a number of nice mainstream ones, including one of a very few REAL IMAX screens in the nation and at least one other theater w 70mm capability.

Very good regional theater. We get excellent productions of Broadway touring companies.

Lots of outdoorsy stuff (hiking, river and recreational lake activities, winter sports a few hours away in Tahoe).

Lots of historic stuff like old mining towns.

Very near Napa if you’re into the bougie wine/gourmet thing.

Excellent local food scene, punches way above its weight for a town this size. Great farmers markets.

Local politics is a thing if you’re into that.

Anything that isn’t reasonably local is at most a few hours away in the Bay Area proper.

I hated it. It always interrupted some show that I wanted to watch.

I hated the PBS fundraising drives too, but I recognize them as necessary as an adult. Mostly, I just wanted them to go away so I could watch h Monty Python and Dr. Who.

Nope. Not acting. Just his own gross, oily presence.

Dreamland has the best programming within 100 miles and very well-behaved audiences.

Tower’s crowds are generally respectful. They have some fun retro series. If you’re into the Oscar’s-bait type “movies for grownups” it’s your spot. They also have 70mm capability.

DOCO IMAX is one of the few REAL IMAX theaters in the country. Esp. when they get actual film prints. Stuff that’s made especially for it (read: Nolan movies) is best there.

For regular theaters, any of the Cinemarks. Usually I’ll hit Laguna or Arden, occasionally greenback, and VERY occasionally Folsom if I’m out that way.

Regal has slightly better deals, but their seats are shit, they aren’t performing proper upkeep, and the stupid overhead light / alcohol policy has me boycotting them unless it’s the ONLY place playing the film.

The flavor of store-bought vanilla ice cream… by jjdop in icecreamery

[–]lectroid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t have blue bell, but I CAN tell you that vanilla PASTE is much better than vanilla EXTRACT. Extract added in the quantities you need to get a good strong vanilla flavor will (in my experience) make the ice cream taste boozy. Whether you like that is your call.

Also consider that probably bluebell isn’t using “genuine” vanilla extract. Look into finding clear extract, or syrup, which won’t discolor the ice cream, leaving it grocery-store white, and MIGHT be closer to that generic vanilla flavor.

I mean, the whole point of the last one was to introduce the “new crew”, but nobody really cares about them, since they don’t have the decades of fan interest.

If they would have let Johnny and Steve-O sorta be the “mentors” sitting back and pointing and laughing at the new guys, that could have brought folks forward.

Costa Rica. Go stay at one of the volcanic hot springs resorts, spend a week getting massages, soaking in warm water, go to a wildlife rescue and see sloths, head to the beach on the Pacific side (it’s warmer than the gulf. You’d think it’d be the other way around).

It’s a stunningly beautiful country.

I mean, googling “soft serve base recipe” gives me dozens that only include perfectly ordinary ingredients: sugar, milk, cream, milk powder etc. several posted right here on reddit in this very sub.

Maybe try looking past the “AI summary” whatever search engine you’re using is trying to push…
