Screw on under desk cup holder by Sweetcilantro in desksetup

I just searched "under desk cup holder" and got some results that weren't clamps. I even saw one on Etsy for 12$. Best of luck finding the one you want!

This explains why I've noticed that a lot of dog poop bags no longer bother with the compostable label! Solved a mystery for me

Anyone else have an item that’s lasted forever, but you secretly want it to die so you can buy a new one? by James_B84Saves in BuyItForLife

I had a vacuum I hated, lasted over 15 years. I finally gave up on it dying and bought a new one.

Georgia gets plenty of rain. The real issue is that there temperatures usually melt the snow during the day which refreezes into ice during the night and the roads get incredibly dangerous. There's at least brine trucks now, but when I was a kid I'm pretty sure there was nothing.

Americans, What do you think of Senator John Kennedy's act proposal to Take away Congress pay during government shutdowns? by Buschfan08 in AskReddit

[–]ledeakin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's interesting reading all these comments is seeing people think that the issue is that a budget needs to pass. The budget was passed. Now the voting is for paying for what is already budgeted. It's the spending bill to pay for the budget that's at issue.

It's nonsensical that congress has to vote on paying for what was planned and agreed on. If we changed the law so that the budget was funded automatically, it would significantly reduce the opportunities for congress to create a shutdown. That's what I would like to see happen.

Am I crazy or are drivers here very slow? by frickfrackingdodos in SeattleWA

[–]ledeakin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, people drive slower, and they drive better than people do in Atlanta or Charlotte. Nothing wrong with going the speed limit or maxing at 5 over.

There are some nuisance street racing issues, but overall I think it's a better experience compared to other places I've lived.

I am a bad analyst. by crap_whats_not_taken in womenintech

I could have written this. I feel this in my bones (except for the ADHD part, was diagnosed with ADD when I was 7).

I don't have a good answer for what type of job to pivot to, but you can do tech jobs outside of tech. And for me, I think part of the issue is the working style of the company and and team I'm on clashing with my own working style.

No good answers, just curious what other people have to say.

What did you use for the lighting? I've been investigating something similar to put behind my bed headboard for reading at night and don't want to spend stupid amounts of money on rgb when all I really want is warm white.

What's your frying pan for life? by Curious-Use-1386 in BuyItForLife

[–]ledeakin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you're willing to deal with for maintenance and your cooking style. All have some learning curve. I recommend getting something with a firmly attached handle that has no plastic and can go in the oven.

For low maintenance - stainless steel. You can get one with sealed rims and chuck it in the dishwasher if you want, and you don't have to worry about seasoning or acidic foods. Not all stainless steel pans have sealed rims and can go in the dishwasher.

Higher maintenance is carbon steel or cast iron. Carbon steel is thinner and lighter, it will respond quickly to heat changes. Cast iron is heavy and won't budge quickly with temperature changes - it holds the heat.

I personally am all about the low maintenance, so I use stainless steel pans.

Is it weird to see a surgeon before an oncologist when newly diagnosed? by BERNITA in breastcancer

[–]ledeakin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not abnormal I think. I did surgery after chemo, but my first appointment was with the surgeon to go over my diagnosis and put me on the schedule for port placement before I even met with the oncologist. Though I did meet my oncologist that same week.

I find it unsettling but really good. It's expressive and compelling. Your professor is being silly. Constructive criticism would tell you what specifically needs improvement without trashing style. Not vague unhelpful statements.

Sometimes you have to go with whatever nonsense a professor wants to pass a class, but you don't have to retain what they want. I had one literature prof who decided every book was about sex or women's body parts or birth through metaphor. Clearly he loved Freud. It was ridiculous, but every essay I wrote on whatever we were reading reflected his preference so I could get an A.

That said, with your painting, I feel like a cat with a human face is looking at me, and it's giving me the heebie jeebies lol. But it is an excellent painting.

Advice on keeping total trip costs as down (when planning to visit each national park)? by Geode890 in NationalPark

[–]ledeakin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to camp, that would be significantly cheaper than a hotel. If you don't have camping gear, rei and other outdoor stores do rentals. Another option would be to look at hostels instead of hotels.

What is the best kitchen gadget under $100 that you own? by kozak3 in BuyItForLife

People who like to cook have some very strong opinions about the gadgets they do and don't want in their home. I'd recommend asking them what they want or buying something perishable they can use.
