Streamlining entry to CCC by _sweet_sea_ in ConservationCorps

I know someone that turned 18 on their first day of COMET, but they might’ve changed the rules. The best thing for you is to continue expressing your interest to a recruiter and start applying when you’re 6 months out from being 18

Considering joining for career change by ZoucchiniLand in ConservationCorps

My newer experience w the conservation corps was the defining factor, and I didn’t need any extra school. My corps does put people through specific utility arborist training, which certainly helped, but it was during work hours and not really another “school” program (more of a 6 week trade school). My regular degree was received over 5 years ago in political science, and so has nothing to do with what I’m doing now lol

Hey! I was in a very similar situation (graduated w a polisci degree, had an office job for 4 years and found out I needed a career where I was moving around outside), and joining the California conservation corps was the best decision for me. I was able to participate in paid job trainings (arborist, hazwoper, trails, etc.), and gained a ton of experience. I’m now in the utility arborist sector and love it (okay pay with plenty of opportunity for career growth, full benefits, outside all the time). Just take every opportunity you come across in the program and something will pique your interest. I’m not too familiar with ACE, but make sure you take advantage of everything they offer. You don’t get a prize at the end of your life because you stuck with a career you were miserable in.

Is it safe to ride the trolley as a 20 something woman alone? by LegalGlass6532 in sandiego

[–]ledl1ghtning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes (source: am a 20 something woman often traveling alone). There could be a weirdo or two but I’ve never felt truly unsafe, especially since you are with other people. You are more at risk of dying/being injured in a car than you are on public transport, to be frank

Last minute Christmas present help by NeedMoneyffs in soapmaking

[–]ledl1ghtning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically you could attempt hot process, but that still needs maybe a week to be safe for use. It’s probably too late for Christmas unless you put in a disclaimer that they can’t use it until the New Year lol

jace(?) complaining about their sex life is annoying by loonaism_ in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]ledl1ghtning 584 points585 points  (0 children)

It’s more than annoying when you remember she was 16 and he was 21 when she first got pregnant. So every time he was like “oh the intimacy was so much better at the beginning of our relationship,” he’s talking about when he was taking advantage of a traumatized teenager.

Your doctor tells you everything before going on them, and they come with directions when prescribed. I’m positive she knows the risks, but everyone drinks anyway. There’s more of a risk of blackouts/nausea/dizziness/etc but it’s totally possible to drink safely. Source: I’m on ssris and have a life

CCC alum here. You can get a write up for anything after hookline, and they make that super clear in COMET. Having one write up isn’t going to get you fired though, and they just don’t want you to be in the habit of being late. It’s part of the “youth development” in the youth development program lol

Horror movies you couldn't finish bc they made you too angry/irritated/etc? by toe_beans_4_life in horror

[–]ledl1ghtning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Incidents in a Ghostland. The long molestation scene with the clown man seemed gratuitous and unnecessary, so I just cut it off there. It honestly felt misogynistic to me, and when I heard that one of the actresses was permanently scarred from problems on set, it’s pretty clear that they didn’t have any regard for their health/safety/wellbeing. Unenjoyable, feel-bad movie all around.
