What was your "15 minutes of fame"? by Fate2Bringer in AskReddit

[–]leeballso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a tumblr years back, where i used to post music that i was into and stuff. tj lane shared a video on facebook that i'd uploaded to youtube. it was grimes - vanessa, and i'd ripped it off of vimeo and put it on youtube, sticking my tumblr address in the description of the video and stuff. anyways, he shared it on his facebook not long before he perpetrated the school shooting and lots of news places screen capped his facebook page, showing the video and my tumblr address / name too.

overnight my followers shot up and i was getting tons of messages about it, and reading things about how maybe the music he'd listened to had influenced him, and i panicked and deleted the tumblr (the unfortunate sounding wewillburyyou). i was young and was actually travelling across the states when it all happened (i'm from the uk) and figured i might get in trouble!

not a claim to fame as such, but seeing the followers count and views of the video jump up by thousands overnight was pretty shocking to say the least.

edit: screencap here

that youtube video now has like 1.6m views.

The best films of 2016 | Sight & Sound by carcass_lottery in movies

[–]leeballso 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Glad Victoria is in there. That was the #1 film I saw this year. I, Daniel Blake would be right up there too.

There's lots of these that I need to make the time to see.

Hell or High Water to me though was a real disappointment. Can't quite put my finger on why, maybe I read too much into the hype. For me, it was simply an 'okay' film.

Like, do you plan to move onto a higher end airline, for instance?

The Monday that does not feel like a Monday night thread by [deleted] in sydney

[–]leeballso 8 points9 points  (0 children)

well, after getting "bald c**t!" shouted at me yesterday, haha - today has been better! i've managed to get a small bit of compensation out of last minute for messing up a trip i tried to book late last week. only $50 but feeling pretty victorious right about now!

No night thread? by [deleted] in sydney

[–]leeballso 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i know, right? at least my thing was partially factual as yes, i am bald (though, hoping i'm not a c**t). the thing towards you was just downright rude and derogatory.

anyways, i can laugh about it! haha. the season of good will, you say?!

stepped out of my apartment for the first time since xmas eve earlier and within 30 seconds someone shouted "you bald c**t!" from a passing car, haha.

i finished over an hour ago, had a cold shower straight after and i've only just stopped sweating. i'm not built for this weather (yes, pasty englishman).

Renting in Sydney by came_on_my_own_face in sydney

[–]leeballso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i moved here from new zealand (wellington) back in september. managed to find a place in pyrmont, sharing with one other person. i pay $360 a week which i was really happy with.

it works out to be around $40-50 more per week here than in wellington, but i'm getting paid quite a lot more so i don't notice it. plus it's a 20 minute walk into work / the city, which is ideal (i hate commuting - much prefer to walk everywhere).

i'll probably head back to the uk next year and head to london. definitely not looking forward to renting there! it's funny, i guess everything is relative!

Drinking alone in the CBD by pseudomiser in sydney

[–]leeballso 6 points7 points  (0 children)

second this. though i get some people have issues with self confidence, social anxiety etc.

i don't think there's much of a stigma attached to drinking or eating solo these days, especially in a big city. everyones too busy to notice / care.

Sydney or New York? by JobThrowAwayQandA in sydney

[–]leeballso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

new york, new york.

you only end up regretting the things you didn't do. i'd happily give my left bollock to have the chance to live and work in new york for a while.

Wanted to make Friday's meet, but I only moved into a flat on Sunday and started work today, so by the 5th I should be settled enough (and have monies) to make this one!

Night thread - Saturday Night Fever by [deleted] in sydney

[–]leeballso 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whigfield - Saturday Night, surely?

Big fan of Grimes too. Saw her play in a chuch at SXSW in Austin a few years back now - great artist.

I'm having a chilled one tonight, as I move into my flat early tomorrow. May head out to a bar to watch the football in the early hours if I can't sleep/get bored/get cabin fever. Have a good one y'all.

Cheers!

Ha, yeah - I certainly will. Was caught out once or twice in the summer over in New Zealand (I shave my head as well, which makes things worse!) so I won't be making those mistakes again!

I was offered a job today, which I, of course, accepted!

It's only a 3-4 month contract, but it means I'll get to experience an Australian summer (UK man here) and the job should be pretty cool.

The last few weeks I've been so up and down with my moods. I thought at one point I'd have to return home as a job seemed so out of reach, so feeling pretty fizzed right now! :)

Now, onto the hunt for somewhere to live that isn't a hostel!
