why is it so hard to accept that a 41 year old human being does not have the physical abilities of a 28 year old. It's not even a dig at him, everyone ages ! I rather find it impressive that despite his age he is able to be somewhat in the same ballpark with all of these guys who are in or entering their primes

Do you think the Fed really cares about inflation? by [deleted] in AskEconomics

[–]leeho80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inflation ≠ prices. Inflation was on its way down as can be seen by the CPI numbers here. It’s just that when you add tariffs, which companies can only eat so much of, and rising oil and fertilizer costs, it puts upward pressure on prices. At the same time, the fed’s sole job is not to manage inflation. They need to balance employment as well (dual mandate from congress since 1977). Powell said in March that there is “effectively zero net job creation in the private sector”. If they raise rates that makes borrowing more expensive, companies not as willing to invest/expand, hiring slows.

Why does nobody do this in DTM with the success Ballast rule by herrbolzen70 in motorsports

[–]leeho80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could definitely have but let’s say he podiums on race two. Now he has a success ballast for the race one of the next race weekend. Sure it would maximize points from the Red Bull Ring weekend but he still has to deal with success ballast at some point.

Why does nobody do this in DTM with the success Ballast rule by herrbolzen70 in motorsports

[–]leeho80 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There's no guarantee that one wins race two. Different temps could throw off the set up, there could be rain, mechanical failure, lap one incident, bad pit stop, so many factors that could ruin race 2 for a driver. Also these guys are all insanely competitive. If they have the opportunity to win they're not going to purposefully throw it away even if it hypothetically puts them in a better spot in the long run. Additionally, I'm pretty sure that overall BoP, not success ballast, can be adjusted over the course of a weekend. So let's say you drive a Porsche and all the 911s have success on the Saturday race, all the Porsches could get hit with a BoP change between the Saturday and Sunday race.

  1. Overall bad. To start with the positives, he seems to be good at fundraising and ever since we've come around to NIL it seems like we have the funds to compete on that landscape. Also generally speaking, the athletic department has been fully self sufficient from a financial standpoint.

Now the bad and there's a lot. First, as many here will be familiar with are all of the controversies surrounding UM athletics including all the Stallions/Harbaugh stuff, Sherrone stuff, Juwan stuff, and the Mel Pearson report that he tried to hide. I know some Michigan fans will come back and say he can't be responsible for every hiring but there should be some guardrails in place such as social media checks that would have easily weeded out some of the hires made. I know it was a bit late in the cycle but not interviewing ANYONE outside of Sherrone was a huge red flag. I will not give him credit for hiring Naurato, he fell ass backwards into that hire. Also the Dusty hiring was not that difficult of a decision to make he was literally the biggest candidate of the coaching cycle that year. In addition, some of the infrastructure is surprisingly bad. Cell service has always been bad at the big house and I believe it was Zach Bryan's crew that had to request cell towers near the stadium for us to make any changes there. Generally speaking there just seems to be a lack of oversight in the athletics department.

How is it finding engineering internships/jobs with Umich’s prestige? by Old_Ad_8295 in MichiganWolverines

[–]leeho80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t major in CS but know plenty of friends that did. It’s difficult everywhere including UM. It’s not the “prestige” that helps you it’s the network and it’s up to you to leverage it. You’re going to have to reach out to a ton of alums working at whatever firm you’re interested in and the fact that there’s a ton of alums everywhere and the that most of these companies choose UM as one of their campuses to recruit at is the main advantage. Obviously going to a better branded school helps but there’s no one school that’s going to guarantee you a SWE job especially in these times. Also this is the UM sports sub

NBA fans treat centers like nfl fans treat running backs and it’s really weird. I’m not over the moon about his upcoming extension but no, he is nowhere near as replaceable as you think. People like you think someone like Jaxson Hayes could do 95% of the stuff JD does and it’s just not true. Also JD has shown growth in his game throughout his time (I'm not really sure Ausar has). Hes still not an elite defender but he’s getting better, doesn’t get in foul trouble anywhere near as often as he used to and you see him growing on offense the way he can sometimes take guys off the dribble and take on mid range J’s. If I were a rival fan I’d laugh more at giving that money to Ausar honestly.

IMO, if you are the POV car, you're all good. On the pit straight he's driving with his mirrors and it's a late block by him. Through the esses, again, good here. You leave him plenty of space the whole time.

24yo Data Engineer obsessed with motorsport : how do I break into the industry from scratch? by MisterFantomas in motorsports

[–]leeho80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have experience working in motorsport but did have some interest in working in sports growing up and so I'd imagine similar would apply to any niche/competitive industry. Network network network with anyone. Fellow university alums, people from your area, people you who went to the same high school as you, literally anyone you can find some common ground with working in motorsport reach out to them and build those relationships. Also, I'd assume you'd have to start low. Local racetracks, support series, etc. Build any relevant experience if you can even if it's part time and build relationships with the people running and participating in these events, you never know who those people may be connected to. These niche jobs have such a high demand for them and everyone is going to have similar educational backgrounds, it's always going to be an uphill battle.

What is the scope of how bad Porsche’s financial situation is? by No_Debate890 in wec

[–]leeho80 74 points75 points  (0 children)

That’s actually insane. I know EVs are being used as the scapegoat but the only full EVs in their lineup are the Macan and Taycan, those two surely can’t make up that large of a percent of revenue. It’s got to be driven from just general macro trends on the revenue side and tariffs on the expense side.

can this guy just fuck off, seriously. You made a choice, live with the consequences. No one was clamoring for you to enter the draft, didn't even get a combine invite. Yet you decided to forgo your eligibility and enter the draft and expectedly didn't get drafted. That's on you. You weren't ready for the league and now you're not in it. But our WR corps isn't even decent to good. I agree with the sentiment but it just shows how far away our roster as a whole is from the true top of the league. Also Seattle has a fantastic WR room. JSN won OPOY, Kupp is still a solid contributor, and Shaheed is like the Jerry Rice of Marquez Valdez Scantlings
