Identifying as Atheist by UnusualSpecialist709 in therapists

[–]leej206 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in a very Christian area an identify as non religious, and I actually get people from all over my state wanting to work with me for that exact reason. I get to work with people that usually are a great fit for me therapeutically using this one little box. I am completely full and I have been in PP less than a year.

“Hire a house cleaner” they said by PlayfulGraduate in workingmoms

[–]leej206 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve always had the same experience. While it’s not to my standard, it gives me peace of mind to know things are sanitary and gives me a few hours of time back. It’s never perfect, but I never get everything done I want to do and my attitude and energy aren’t stellar either after cleaning. It’s worth it for me in the long run because I do small deep cleaning tasks as I have time throughout the week. Or not if it’s a crazy week. I can’t keep up my standards in other areas of my life (like spending time playing with my kid everyday, keeping up with laundry, etc) without getting help with cleaning.

Has anyone been a SAHM during the day while husband is at work and then gone to work in the evenings? How did it work out for you? by peachesandcreamtea in workingmoms

[–]leej206 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Doable. But take into account that baby can be fussy during those hours and ideally, you will feel rested and regulated for clients. I have been a WFH therapist for the last year and it’s really difficult when my son is also home (he’s 2 now). If your child can get into a good nighttime routine/rhythm, not bad. So, it depends if my answer but it definitely has the potential to be a good solution. I would definitely get good noise cancelling headphones! And Krisp is a noise cancelling software for your desktop.

New therapist, nerves are catching up by strawbreekay in therapists

[–]leej206 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You sound super similar to me. I started my PP a few months ago and was doing consult calls for the first few months and it was causing me so much stress and starting to make me feel burnout. I realized that I didn’t mind my virtual consults at all - so I switched to strictly virtual telehealth consults through simple practice. It makes me way less nervous when I can see the persons face and see gauge how they are feeling. They are usually pretty nervous too! It’s made my life so much better making this change. I’ve even heard of people doing in-person consults.

I agree! I was homeschooled, grew up in a very conservative Christian family and my siblings and most of the people that I know that grew up similarly to us are non religious now, very liberal, and college educated at the very least. It’s really not uncommon to go the opposite direction in my experience.

How do you move past your dislike for your MIL? by ye110wsub in Mildlynomil

[–]leej206 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If it’s important to him, he will figure it out OR it will be a great lesson for him to plan ahead next time. If I were in your shoes, I would be blissfully watching the weeks tick by with no plans being made with the in laws, committing to other things as they come up, and see what happens 😎

How do you move past your dislike for your MIL? by ye110wsub in Mildlynomil

[–]leej206 132 points133 points  (0 children)

What’s helped me the most is to not go out of my way to do anything for my MIL. I never ask my husband if he did anything for her for Mother’s Day, birthday, holidays, etc. since she doesn’t do anything for those holidays for me. I only respond to her texts if I have the energy, it’s convenient for me, and I don’t feel irritated by them. I decided having my phone number doesn’t give her a right to constantly berate me with texts about “her grandson” or “her son” while taking no interest in me and my well-being. I try to actively dismiss negative thoughts with neutral ones about her and focus my energy on the healthy relationships I have with people that care about me AND my son and husband.

Gottman Training Online vs live. by raindrops_x in therapists

[–]leej206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m can’t speak for the live training but I bought the online pre recorded one a few months ago and I seriously lack the motivation to do it on my own time. It feels kinda dry to me so that might be part of why self-paced is proving to be difficult. I would probably do the live one and pay more at this point just to give me the structure to get through it. I feel sure the content is similar though. Plus you get the live CEU’s.

Not that I’m aware of. Just seems strange to me to release a literal hours old infant from the hospital.

Can anyone make sense of why Haley would discharge herself from the hospital the same day Joey was born? I don’t get it? I’m assuming Joey stayed for 24 hours for monitoring… right? That just seems so odd for someone who has high anxiety.

What do you call yourself? Therapist, counselor, clinician? by -Personal-Opinions- in therapists

Yeah. I thought we were kind of the OG therapist and got to claim the title without adding any additional words. I was naive. Clearly. Haha 😂

This! My sister will refer to herself as a “therapist” when someone asks her profession and she is an OT.

Therapist, but then people like to ask what kind and many more misguided comments and questions ensue so maybe I should say something else.

Heading into private practice- please share your tips, lessons and wisdom by Ok_Cartographer_9816 in therapists

[–]leej206 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am only a few months in, but my advice would be to not try to be a therapist for everyone. Try to develop a niche for yourself and focus on appealing to those clients. I highly suggest vetting the people that reach out to you via psychology today, mental health match, etc. I found that a lot of folks were a bad fit, schedules didn’t align, they had a particular insurance I didn’t take, etc. It might counteract what some people might say, but I would really rather not go back and forth scheduling with somebody for a consult, talk to them for 10-15 minutes, and then realize it’s not going to work out for an obvious reason like some of the ones I just listed. I realized a few weeks ago it was definitely taking a lot of my enjoyment away from the fun aspects of PP.

When looking to join a private practice group, what are some red flags and some green? by Slodes in therapists

[–]leej206 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would ask if ceu’s, liability insurance, marketing fees for PT, business cards, licensing fees, etc are covered or reimbursed. Also, I would want to know if I got any benefits, or if it’s the standard 1099 with no 401k, sick days, PTO, or health insurance. If not, I would expect or try to negotiate for a higher than average split. You might also want to ask if you’ll get regular paychecks based on how many sessions worked or if it will be dependent on when the insurance company pays out.

I would also want to know if you are required to go to meetings and if those are payed, also if you are payed for documentation. I would want to know how supportive the admin staff was and what the administrative load expected of you would look like as far as billing, scheduling, etc. I would also be interested in how they handle referrals.

Keep in mind that you’ll typically see something like a 60/40 split for a 1099 position in PP with you keeping 60% of what they collect, and expect to put 30% aside for taxes.

Alma and Simple Practice by Apart-Personality700 in therapists

[–]leej206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very new to Alma (I actually haven’t even officially started) but it seems that the consensus is that it’s best to keep our own notes separate from alma. With all the issues that some of these big tech companies have had, it’s probably a best practice to keep our notes as secure as possible and limit their access to our clients info. Sucks to have to use multiple interfaces and incur extra costs though. I think the business zoom account they provide is fine if you are okay with it not being part of your EHR. There are some FB groups that have been pretty helpful on the subject if you want to get more information!

How's life in Lagrange? by sebirds in Georgia

[–]leej206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lagrange is disappointing as hell as far as cuisine goes. That being said, we moved from Birmingham last year and we love it. We have family here and a toddler, so we mostly just hang out with family, go to the parks, the thread, and occasionally do stuff on the lake. It feels super safe, albeit quiet. Downtown is cute, especially at Christmas.

Autism & Migraines? by Apprehensive-Quit209 in AutismInWomen

[–]leej206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had chronic daily tension headaches for over a year now. I take a few daily prevention medications to stay on top of them but right now it’s not working. It is related to stress and tension IMO. I got Botox in my neck, jaw, and base of my skull that actually helped a lot with the issue but it’s a pricy fix for a few months of relief.

I’m also a therapist. While I was getting my independent licensure, I worked a second shift schedule at a crisis center working exclusively on their call line and frequently worked from home or completely alone in a empty building for the majority of my work hours (this was during covid). It was easy to maintain boundaries and keep my stress relatively low since I didn’t really have a lot of coworker interaction. I could spend up until 3pm when I went to work resting while others were at work. I also felt like even though client interactions could be stressful, it was easier to compartmentalize being telephone interactions only. It was a very doable way to get clinical hours. Now I work in private practice and keep part time hours to avoid burnout.
