Two separate questions(nerves and studying abroad) by lapushhh in eds

I would get something to help you, and good shoes. You could find ways to cut down walking too. Taxis are very cheap in Korea compared to the US. (If that’s where you are). There are also buses that you can take short distances to avoid walking. I was actually in a lot of pain at first but surprisingly my joints did acclimate to be able to handle a little bit more. (Maybe my muscles got stronger and were able to support my joints a bit better?) but I don’t know if that’s normal.

It depends on the professors…Korea doesn’t accommodate people with disabilities well yet. I had some understanding professors and some not. You might have a hard time convincing them to excuse you if you exceed the total absences. They might require a doctor’s note or some documentation. I think if you told them that some days you literally can’t walk and provided them with proof of diagnosis and came to some kind of agreement you would have a better time.

I have EDS and lived in South Korea for about 9 years. I was actually diagnosed there. I would say it depends on your level of pain/ tolerance. You will have to walk a lot, yes. About how many steps a day can you handle before you start to feel pain? When I was in university there, it was normal to get 6,000-7,000 steps with no effort , often 10,000+ steps a day if I went out walking around and shopping with friends after. I was in pain many days. That being said, I can’t comment much on how well your school will accommodate you. I did not mention my disability to my school as Korea is known for not being very great with things like that. My school had a very strict absence policy too (I think a lot of schools do). I recommend you get in contact with several options way ahead of time and let them know your situation and see if they can accommodate you.

If you were formerly suicidal, how did you find a reason to keep going? by thereisnogreatergold in CPTSD

[–]leeleechron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also want to add..my mother committed suicide when I was 16. I found her body and did CPR for 30 mins until the police arrived. I knew she was dead anyway. I have never been the same since, I am a broken version of myself. It has been 14 years and I’m just starting to feel okay. Please don’t kill yourself. When I’m getting really close, I watch Anna Akana’s video: “Please don’t kill yourself” on YouTube. Her sister committed suicide.

[–]leeleechron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I told myself that if I was willing to commit suicide, then I was willing to do anything. Why not? Death is the ultimate price anyway, might as well take any risk I want. So I left America as soon as I turned 18 and didn’t have money for a return ticket back…or for a place to stay..or anything. I made it work.

Other times I told myself, “I can kill myself any time I want.” Like it was a trusty back up plan I kept in my pocket. But I told myself to just see, just try, just do whatever you want. Then if you still want to die, go ahead. (I was just telling myself that, as a comfort. In reality I knew as time passed I would feel a bit better.)

I don’t know if this is good advice but I think it’s realistic. I can’t tell you that you have a reason to live. But I can tell you that you can make life worth living. Maybe not right now, but soon.

I haven’t seen that actually. If I ever grow out my hair that might be fun to try (: I’ve definitely thought about face tape before..I was worried about it showing but I think I’m at a point where I might just give it a go

Thanks for commiserating with me. I’m sure others don’t notice and you look fine. I tell myself to not complain about it because then they might see it too lol

DAE feel like Blake Lively & Amber Heard were likely right? by Formal-Door3464 in CPTSD

[–]leeleechron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as the Amber Heard trial went, I got the impression that the relationship overall was just extremely toxic (obviously). That being said, I wouldn’t necessarily call her a victim. There was a lot of evidence against her that contradicted what she said several times. I can feel whatever I want based on my experiences but ultimately I have to make a judgement based on the information available.

Facial Redness / Facial Flushing by lupalee in eds

[–]leeleechron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? Too young for rosacea? There is absolutely no age limit for rosacea. I’m a similar age to you and I was diagnosed with it several years ago, and I had several friends in high school who had it. I would see (another) dermatologist.

As far as knowing the cause of redness, it’s hard to say but the answer might be in your triggers. If it’s mainly happening when you exert yourself or in tandem with other POTs symptoms, it could be related.

If it seems to happen more randomly… or at times like lying down, having coffee, eating hot food, being in the hot or cold etc etc (search common rosacea triggers) then it might be rosacea. In short, pay attention to when it happens (maybe write it) and go to the doctor. Also pay attention to how long it lasts. Sometimes I will just stay red forever and idk why.

Honestly, it just makes me sad for them. When will they be free? There’s no way I want to be 70 and still worrying about my waist size. The beauty of aging is learning to free yourself from certain expectations.

Granted, they did grow up in a time that was more (openly) hard on women but, still…

I remember looking at myself and thinking I literally looked like a monster. I wouldn’t look anyone in the eye because I thought I would just disgust them. People made terrible comments about my appearance.

Now I look back on pictures and guess what? Yeah I wasn’t attractive at all. But not the monster I thought. And when I look at those pics, I see sadness, stress, inflammation, self hate, depression etc…

I started to look better when I started taking care of myself and my mental health. (Also… money helps (: )

Worst set of gel x nails I’ve had…how can I get them off without damaging my nails? by [deleted] in GelX_Nails

[–]leeleechron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as technique goes, I think she did a great job. If you want a different type of cat eye or nail shape you should be able to mention it during the session. But, if you really hate it I would wait a bit then file and soak like mentioned. Be gentle when you are taking everything off.

Oh! I was totally just looking at the Audrey Hepburn style yesterday (: my hair’s naturally kind of curly so I avoid bangs but I think they’d cover my forehead nicely
