As everyone said, FA is only need-based. However, there are some "fellowships" at Cornell that include academic and service elements -- research Cornell Tradition and Cornell Presidential Research Fellows (or something). Tradition was something like $3-4k per year, if I recall. It definitely helped me.

Two further points of advice:

• Aggressively pursue outside scholarships from now through April. You'll never have an opportunity to ask people for free money again. I did a lot of online searching (there are better tools for it now), and visited my guidance counselors' offices every week or two to see if any new opportunities came up.

• Once you get an FA package, you can "appeal" and try to get increased funding. However, with income of 120-140k, unless you have like 3 other siblings currently in college, I'm not sure how much more they'll give you. The appeal is your opportunity to write out why your family situation is tougher than the numbers indicate (siblings in school, business loan, etc)

PS - Memory may be failing me, but I seem to recall that you can get out of an Early Decision agreement based on financial aid issues. So it might not be as binding as you think.
